BET Talk

Funny, I was genuinely looking for some stuff on yesterday’s game and stumbled into something called casual Hoya. Check out some of the comments on here. One guy wants Cooley fired. Sounds a lot like the last 30 years here on Red.Fans. Amazing how losing has an effect on a fan base. We are not alone. Hopefully this is behind us.

I’m not saying Cooley should be fired but Ewing could have beaten DePaul by a point twice. He is off to a terrible start. He either did an awful job in the portal or an awful job coaching these guys.

I can't think of many coaches who rely on "buy in" more than Cooley. He's very much a program culture guy. He looked very frustrated a lot of this season. Have to wonder whether the modern era of basketball is a whole new hurdle for his type of coaching.

Porter moser and Bobby Hurley both want that job.

I think DePaul has fallen well past anywhere we have. Their situation is like us hiring Norm twice, and then hiring someone worse after the second time. Im really not sure they have fans left. And if they do, they’d be thrilled with a NIT bid.

They’re building a new practice facility (similar to us), and their NIL sounds competitive next year.

I have zero doubt that Cooley will bring Gtown back.
I think he will too, not zero doubt though. For me that doesn’t excuse this year. If I had season tickets I wouldn’t be happy. I am not big on punting seasons, strange I know as a SJU fan. I would still be hopeful he’s the guy but more wary than I would have been a year ago.

Tonight at Midnight NBC and Bruce Beck and Fanta and another guy will be previewing the BET

Moses/Hurley would have to gut the whole team.

1. Yes, there is little overall truth to the "it's hard to beat a team three times" trope.

2. However, it depends on what teams you're talking about. SJU beat DePaul twice; it would not be hard for SJU to beat DePaul a third time (or a fourth or a fifth) because of the quality differential between the two teams. OTOH if you have two teams that are relatively evenly matched, it is more like the coin toss theory: each time you toss the coin there is a 50% chance it will be heads. If you look at them independently, it's 50% each time. But if you look at it as a string of events, the odds of it being heads three times in a row is low.

You can make a good argument that SHU is a better team based on better record vs common opponents and more "quality wins." But they aren't MUCH better, I would mostly throw out the results of the game at SHU, and it remains my opinion that SJU has better talent and depth when properly deployed.

Bottom line is I don't think the results of the prior matchup are all that important in this game: it's a standalone proposition, I think it's pretty much a coin toss, and I expect it to be a rock fight. To me Ledlum is a big key to this game - he's the only player on our roster who I think could play for Holloway based on physical and mental toughness. The rest of the roster is going to need to step up in that department if they want to win.
Look, evenly matched teams, let's assume 50-50. 1/8 chance a team wins three in a row.

No NIL money, next year they will have as much as we do. Check back after next year

Because Cooley relies on "buying in", I think that he took a different approach to recruiting and did not focus on the transfer portal. He has four 4* freshman coming in next season. Between the players he has returning and the incoming class, he appears to be rebuilding in a way that reflects his idea of program culture. It has been stated that he makes 6 million a year. Georgetown will give him the time he needs to rebuild. They are not lacking for NIL money.

The only problem is the NIL can easily get in the way of building culture. Some kids will transfer for more money (not arguing the point either way) even if the program they are currently in is best suited for them.

I think the importance of kids who understand their role as practice pit bulls, are extensions of the coach, and do not take a large part of the NIL pool, are invaluable to building a culture.

Fiedler and Brumbaugh are Sophs next season . They will be 2 of the key pieces for the Hoyas to build on .
Brando commented that DC , Maryland area are loaded with top HS prospects .
Cooley will be competing with Willard for some of that talent . He will do well .

Another terrific coach in the BE. He'll figure out how to manage the change in college basketball. I expect to get some very entertaining games between Pitino and Cooley in the years to come.

well cooley doesnt have father time against him. Rick knows he is 71 years old. Rick knows last years team was toxic. He had to just flush everything. From what I know Georgetown wasnt toxic, they were simply not good.

Anyway enough about cooley and Georgetown, who in the right mind would want to coach Depaul? I mean there like the NJIT of the Big east. I feel bad for their fans though, cause well we were once them. (especially after 80% of the team was kicked off after the infamous road game activities from Jarvis' old team)
