This hard to beat a team a third time has to be put in context. There are different levels of match ups to figure into the equation. If two teams are evenly or close to evenly matched it will be a lot harder to beat that team a third time vs a good or great team having to beat a poor to mediocre team a third time.
Ive never seen any stats that show if 2 teams are evenly matched its hard the beat them a 3rd time in a season. Where are you getting this from?

Great point, numbers mean absolutely nothing without contextual analysis (dipping into some work jargon big time).

In another thread someone brought up the stats of the last X amount of years... Team A that has beaten Team B twice - wins the 3rd game 77% of the time (think i have it right...)

But again, some of that is a massive talent discrepency.

For example, I'm pretty sure Villanova is going to beat DePaul for a third time on Wednesday night.

Teams at the bottom of conferences, generally do suffer a third loss to a team in the conference tournament.

I think a case could be made that we might match up better against Creighton and Marquette , without Kolek than we do vs Seton Hall .
We foul a lot against teams that beat us off the dribble . Especially if we stay too long in that usually ineffective Press .
Richmond , Davis , Dawes beat us off the dribble last 2 games .

I agree. I think Creighton is especially less athletic. It's no surprise that Alexander went off on us -- he's by far their best athlete.

SHU matchup scares me more and more. We haven't showed we can compensate for our lack of lateral quickness for 40 minutes in a game.

True . Soriano can’t shoot 3-9 from free throw line again . And , he better get back on defense in this game and not loaf downcourt .
Said differently , we need him to have a big game scoring and rebounding ,shot blocking .

If I’m Pitino , I start Taylor on Richmond . Then Luis . Then , Alleyne .

Taylor and Luis can harass him with and without the ball . Plus , have the size to match him . And, we need to make him play defense all game . Wear him down .

The Providence/ Georgetown Wednesday night game will be a good appetizer. I think Providence wins but if the G’Town team that played yesterday shows up it will be a game. The whole Cooley leaving Providence makes it extra spicy. They don’t want to lose to him in Year One.

Two things.

1. - Every single freaking year I ask for just one thing. Not an NCAA Championship, not a BE Tournament Championship, just to please stay out of the Wednesday night BE Tournament garbage fest. It's an accomplishment, it means SJU came in fifth (and there were no ties) in a very difficult league with teams who play an identical conference schedule. It's not the ultimate but I have a young granddaughter, and you cannot walk until you can stand, and you cannot run unless you can walk. And yes, while watching her go in one direction with all that I am going in the other direction, but that's not the point. For the longest time, SJU couldn't stand, now they are crawling, progress is progress. How long? The last non-Covid year SJU had a bye I could make it all the way across Union Turnpike by foot with one green light.

I'm floating on air today!

2. A week from now SJU will be BE tournament champs. Before the season this was proclaimed by NCJohnnie and I have no reason to doubt him. I don't forget these things. And no takebacks, NCJohnnie.

This is going to be such a fun week.

You're right IDRAFT - that was my pick on the thread Otis started, but I also said they'd go 22-9 in the regular season so I'm already pretty far behind the 8 ball!
