(BET) (POST GAME) Villanova, Thur., Mar. 10, 7p, FS-1

The reason we lost this game was that our defense broke. In the first half we had 3 to 4 men in the defensive paint all the time. They did not sore one point in the paint. In the second half we didn't. Very simple, our guys were focused on defense in the paint in the first half and then they distracted us and we allowed too many easy inside points in the second half.

After we lost that home game to Creighton I told myself I wasn’t gonna sucked into caring about this team. How do they manage to rope me in every single time before of course slitting my throat in the end? It is uncanny.

i look at my other favorite sports team, the New York jets, at least they’ve had the decency the last decade to never get my hopes up

Referees: Lamar Simpson, Nathan Farrell, Jeff Anderson.

Shame on them.

Farrell never gives us a call, ever. He and Mullin hated each other.  If that's the reason he's still screwing us over, then it's time for him to get over it, or he should be taken off of our games.

If we have a nice run in the NIT then I'll believe that the team came together.

I officially want him to stop commenting tonight./media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

I hope that all eligible players return for next year.  No more mass exodus.

That video shows how bad a call that really was.  That is criminal to miss that.  Gillespie also extended his arm every time he went into the post also.  He always gets away with it, although SJ finally was able to draw some charges today.

I get your point, but as a fellow Jets die hard sufferer, they have absolutely excelled in getting our hopes up repeatedly, see e.g. Sam darnold pick etc.  Hell, I'm currently all in on Zack despite 40 years of knowing better.  Do you also meet the fun trifecta of being a Mets fan like me?  Good times!

If the school is already saying we'd play, we get invited, and then we suddenly don't play, then you know what's coming.

Staff mismanaged game ending, Champ misses big shot, story of season. What could Anderson have done to change the outcome? How about instead of a champ outside shot, tell one player to drive and everyone else hit the glass….. that’s how Nova won.

there’s a reason they have lost every close conference game this year…. And it’s not the players. The ending was a microcosm of the season, poor end game coaching and our best player falling short.
So, the staff designs a play to get your best player a wide open shot…and they mismanaged the play? Look at it again. Do you know why he was wide open? Because Nova had clogged the lane expecting a Posh drive.
We all know that you want a coaching change. With this one, you just sound silly.
Clearly you didn’t watch the end of the game. Posh  never looked to drive,  Wusu downscreened for Champ who put up a three? Why a three, Champ was 1-6 from three and Posh just ran the play. Whether the lane was clogged or not had nothing to do with it so don’t make things up to make a point.
Clearly reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Where did I say Posh looked to drive? “Because Nova had clogged the lane expecting a Posh drive”. There, I said it again. Now do you understand?  The fact of the matter is the play was executed perfectly, except for the shot.  Which you still have a problem with.

you gotta be a mets fan too to be in the misery club

where is that pharma2000something poster. Ambien doing nothing for me right now I need something stronger

So tough and yet so similar to all those close games lost at crunch time Teams will rarely give up a shot in the paint in that last minute. They will almost always foul making the player make the foul shots. In all those close losses I don’t recall a SJU player ever getting to the foul line. They would pass the ball around until someone ,usually Champ would take a 25 footer and miss.
There just wasn’t anyone on the roster who would take the ball to the rim with the game on the line Smith did tonight with over two minutes to go and he made the three point play to put SJU ahead but he was rarely on the court in those last few minutes because his play didn’t merit it. They needed someone to step up but that player wasn’t here.

Fair to criticize the staff for plenty that went wrong this year.  But I though the play  at the end for Champagnie, our best player, was a good shot that would have won the game.  He flat out missed it.  Had to try to sit Posh when he picked up his third foul and then buy a little time when he picked up his fourth.  In my view, this game was not lost bc of bad coaching by our staff,

Just another season when the toothless old-timers with swollen prostates and bad knees can commiserate about the glory days of 30+ years ago.  I cringe every time Bill Rafferty waxes nostalgic about the old days and the old coaches.  The program needs a good enema.

Time to drown my sorrow in a bottle of Prince Hubert de Polignac...the best cognac out there (and I've tried them all).

As after attending this and other heartbreaking losses this year like Creighton and PC, I still leave the game proud of how hard the team fought and relishing  how much fun I still had.  And I'll be a proud supporter  tomorrow.  To me that's most important.

Right you are Newsie …. and this is yet another season for the regulars on Redmen.com to post about players that played at St. John’s decades ago, in some cases before some of the parents of current players were born.

Rah- Rah- Rah !

We Are ….. !
