BET Game 1- Providence -Thursday, 2:30pm Fox Sports 1

Jamal Branch: "We had no points in transition, and that's pretty much our game." #sjubb. Difference of opinion obviously.

So Lavin says we're a terrible transition team, and more of a half court team.
His point guard thinks transition is their bread and butter. Makes sense.

Not only his point guard, every single analyst that has covered our games emphasizes transition basketball is our game. Is this guy for real?

@rumbleSBN: Lavin on why Rysheed didn't start: "Older group. Jamal's been playing well." #

Huh?

Please tell me that's not true. Our one and only penetrator who has stood out offensively. Plus, Branch is an excellent sixth man off the bench.

Ugly game. I'm very disappointed, and I would much rather be playing later this week. The silver lining here is we got our clock cleaned on the boards and that will be fresh in the minds of everyone next week. It also probably helps that we dealt with foul trouble with both Dom and CO and both Dom and Harrison saw their Big East careers end on awful performances.

That call on Dom for the fourth foul was disgusting. As a ref, you're main job is to let the kids decide the game. Giving Dom his fourth with 13 minutes left on a phantom call took away our chance to win. Just swallow the damn whistle.

When Jordan left clutching his wrist, I was in disbelief at just how unlucky this program is. First, Ty Grant's injury keeping us from a Final Four, then DJ in 2010-2011, and this? Thankfully he came back on the court and we now have at leas a week to rest and get back to the fundamentals.

I agree with you on the Dom call. There were other bad calls as well that took us out of it. Not that we would have won anyway.

Instead of Jordan clutching his wrist, the whole team should have been clutching their throats with yet another choke job.

Only saw a little of the first half and most of the second. Everyone here seems suicidal, but if it's true we get in on Sunday, I can deal with the loss. I saw a team that looked tired and hurting, with little left to give. In the post season, the good teams show up. You can't get away with less than a stellar 40 minute performance unless you are Kentucky. The rest has to help. The realistic goal for the seniors is to make the tourney, and maybe win a game. That goal was not hurt by today's performance, unless all the experts here are wrong that we are a lock. This team wasn't set up to make it deep into any tournament. not enough live bodies, not enough size. I just hope they represent the school well in their first NCAA appearance.

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin now saying #sjubb is a much better half court team than transition. Huh? #

@CBarcaSTJ: Lavin says SJU is one of the poorest transition teams he's ever coached: "We really struggle in transition to convert." #SJUBB

Huh, Huh?

Zach has never played a sport in his life. Look up nerd in the dictionary and you'll see his photo.

Lavin is clearly...obvious as can be..calling his guys out for their lack of following through on the game plan and the bread and butter on this team. Every coach has pulled the "maybe we aren't as good as I thought" card.

Anyone that can't see this is just being an idiot.

First off, I'm not buying that Jamal who was coming off a groin injury was playing better than Sheed in practice. Sheed just came off a great game at Nova. That just doesn't add up.

And both D'Lo and Balamou have eye injuries? Come on.

That being said, Tyler Harris has to be 6'8, 220 soaking wet and he has bullied us two years in a row on the same court. It's embarrassing.

D'Lo didn't lead today. Chucking shots isn't leading.

How can a group of Seniors be on the cusp of something they never achieved and lay an egg after all that talk? Last year we gave them a pass because it was the NIT.

And I'm not going to even touch Lavin's post game comments right now.

I just hope his comments find their way to the President.

Leaving work early to catch a basketball game. Fun

Watching St. John's getting blown out in their first game of the Big East Tournament, typical.

Sitting (more like standing) next to your daughter at the game because she gave you one of her two tickets she won in a lottery... PRICELESS.

Reading some of Lavin's post game quotes, it's almost like he wants to be fired

I don't think he would mind getting fired. Unlike some posters on this site, Mr. Lavin fully understand how bad the team will be next year.

Get fired......avoid rebuilding (again)......and keep the money? Bingo!

I was thinking that it was clearly a case of smoking too much weed. But that's certainly another theory...

@jeffborzello: This definitely promotes confidence. RT @NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin: "I'm a poor conference tournament coach."

Even if tongue in cheek, better not to say it & promote press frenzy Imo.

I don't consider myself an idiot and to be honest, I don't know what the hell Lavin is talking about

Press Frenzy? The program is on it's way to insignificance.

P
why do we get our hopes up every year in the BE tourney we crap the bed and go home like losers.. this is insane that we play a 1st half like this against a team we beat already and we go out and drop a load on our court now we come out and yo yo between 8 and 17 and lose then we say oh well we are in big dance NO we must do better then this it is a joke already

I agree. The tournament is on our own court for god sakes. Time for us to start winning some games

Not a home court advantage. There are more Providence fans here than St. John's.

I don't think so. Not from what I saw. They just had more of a reason to be loud.

Came out too amped hurling threes, jumpers w no penetration. Played right into their hands.

Exactky...we played on the perimeter all game long..no attempt to play inside out...we were better off driving and getting fouled then taking all those low % shots...

Credit to Providence defense as they punched us in the face and we panicked
