I know bad officiating is part of the game, but I hate getting a win like that, especially because karma is now lurking later in the schedule
Karma? Have you slept through the last 10 years? This program has not had one good thing happen to it in so long.
It was mostly self inflicted pain. And I haven’t been sleeping through the last 10 years! You're outta line!

To be fair though, I am usually drowsy and have a short attention span...

We were very lucky that the ref swallowed his whistle on VCU's last shot
The replay showed that Ponds clearly fouled him
We caught a good break for a change at just the right time
The Cardiac Kids pull it out again!!
GO JOHNNIES!!!
Marvin Clark came into game shooting 29%. Shot 8 threes and only had 3 rebounds.
Needs to get his but closer to rim!
5-0 so that is good and like I have said playing these close games now will help us down the road.
My thoughts exactly! We need this guy to get his arse under the basket and rebound! I am sick of seeing him chuck up the ball from the cheap seats! He played horribly today!

LJ needs to shoot more, Clark less
Dixon had a good game. And Williams played so everyone should be happy about that. Mullin was just saving him for OT and two guys fouling out.
Spot on re LJ & they missed him a lot when open. He got a little frustrated as a result.
He had 1 on 3 at end of regulation but was hoping he shot it

We got lucky! That was a foul.

Sometimes that's what it takes. Whew!
That was clearly a foul and would have been a dumb one at that.

Very impressed by VCU. They will make hay in A 10. This is one of those teams on paper before season you said not good but I think they will be good this year.
I'm guessing you feel the same way about Cal?

As good as Ponds is, as clutch as he has been he needs to do a much better job including other people in the offense. LJ is underused, he needs to be fed the ball. In general the was too much dribble, dribble & chuck it. Lucky to pull this one out.

This team looks like crap alot, but still 5-0
Only way they will improve is with better coaching.
Will that come.

Glad there's a week off.

He was not shy had 2nd most shots. Charles Smith level layup shooter this year

I thought we played a little selfishly tonight. Guys were not making the extra pass and trying to do it all alone. Ponds included. I know he's our guy down the stretch but throughout the game he needs better shot selection. A lot of guys were forcing the issue tonight and that doesn't make me feel very confident long term.

The way Duke is winning games is boring. I would rather win this way. SJU makes these games exciting.:p

The refs were awful to both teams. They missed about 4 blatant walking violations by VCU. So they missed a call at the end. Ponds otherworldly, and team played with heart. I don't recall a player who wants the ball like he does in the clutch. I would rather others get involved too, but sometimes you gotta go with the hot hand, and your money man.

I really liked the way Williams took off his warmups. Good form

VCU is better than people are giving them credit for. They beat a good Temple team. I bet they move way up as the year goes on. With that said, we're still the better team and should've won this easier. However a win is a win

Goodman:

This is kinda crazy to say two weeks into the season, but that St. John’s home victory over VCU might have been the best win any Big East team has had to date.

Other candidates:

Providence over South Carolina
DePaul over Penn State

I don’t want to hear how we got away with one by not calling the foul on Ponds at the end of the game. That break made up for that technical Ponds got at a very pivotal time of the game.

The coaching is fine. We played the game with basically 6 guys and nobody over 6.7. Heron and Clark played terrible and still won the game!!! We lose this game and yesterdays game in previous years. For that matter if Lovett stays through the year we win 18-18 games. A very acceptable improvement given what was left and the competition we are playing.
Just keep winning!!!!

Problem is it appears those shots are encouraged, even Simon's horrendous 3 point try from the corner, that looked like a field goal attempt that went wide right
