(Baha Mar Hoops) #13 Baylor, Thu., Nov. 21, 7p, CBSSN

Zuby looked so distraught feel reallly bad. Kid played great. I am glad Rick stuck up for him.

Two ways to look at it, they blew it and should be down.

Another way to look at is Baylor hit two 3's and neither were remotely easy and 1 was a bit of a gift from the clock operator. I mean neither was bad defense.

Need to bounce back tomorrow likely playing Virginia.

That felt like an NCAA Sweet 16 Tourney game, just would have been better if they won.
Guy played his heart out and was crying in the handshake line

I still say that there were ways to prevent that last second shot. In a situation like that, the team could have been told, whoever comes down with the ball is the one to take the shot. So why not double that individual, even if he passes it somewhere there will not be time to get a shot off after the pass. And how many assistant coaches does Pitino have on the bench??

V.J, who can't shoot threes well, and couldn't hit much all night, hits a contested 3. Zuby will end up shooting in the mid to high 60s from the line. Let's call it 65%. Someone with better math skills than me can tell us what his odds of going 0 for 2 were. Roach hits a long three on the move at the buzzer. The odds of all of those things happening had to be 10% at best. That's bad luck. That's St. John's.

I'm also not buying it that they wanted it more. Our guys could have folded when Baylor went ahead in regulation and OT. They all played very well and very hard. Refs called certain things loose all night. Mainly avoided calling fouls on rebounds and loose balls, or balls our guys had and were stripped of by hard fouls. No Anthony Glovers on this team strength wise. I'm proud of the fight they put up. There is nothing you can do about freak endings. Yes, Zuby missed 2, and didn't help himself by rushing the second. Then again, Baylor missed a lot of free throws down the stretch, and Zuby played a lot of minutes at hyper speed, which is what we needed from him to stay in the game. Of course we are all tired of losing tough games, but imagine how the players feel.

I can't think of any.
Zuby was the most dominant big man on the floor vs. Top competition and not a mid major. Proved himself. His footwork around the basket 100% better than last year.

Aaron drained 5 threes.

We bounced back to force 2 overtimes when it looked like the game was slipping away.

First half was dominant. Most of second hald we gave it up in regulation but didnt fold.

Even with a subpar Khadary we still hung tough.

And most of all guessing the Abbatiello family was there to watch it.

I keep coming back to the fact we blew a 14 pt lead at halftime.

We got outplayed and outcoached.
We had eight 3's in that half. No way would they have replicated that. No team I know of could. That's 24 points. I knew it would be close. I knew when they were missing half their free throws that it would come back to haunt them.

I also think the refs wanted it to be close, so there's that.

Of course, in a one point loss, there are so many plays that could have turned the game, but Zuby attacking the rim and coming up empty with 40 seconds to play up 4 sticks out. Needed to run some clock there.
Overall, gave them too many chances to hang in. At one point they scored 6 points in 18 seconds when we had control of the game. Hard to lose a game up 5 with 9 seconds to go, but we did not manage the clock well, had an inbounds play that didn’t get the ball downcourt, and had a rebound go off RJ’s hands without the game clock starting. Perfect storm of things going wrong for us at end of game.
Got to find a way to put this behind us and win tonight and Sunday. Going to need to use the bench more and have more guys contribute.

Baylor defended the inbound well. When a team presses the safety valve is your big man coming up from near mid court. His job is to immediately dump it back to the inbounder who is usually your best ball handler and who steps i. Quickly with defending usually ignoring him. Baylor was well schooled to immediately foul zuby so that wouldnt happen.

Zuby was the last option for a clean entry pass. If baylor hadn't sealed off our ball handlers it wouldnt have been thrown to him. No question it was a tough spot for a 65% ft shooter who had his first big pressure moment.

The mere fact that Zuby was on the line was not his fault at all. In fact up to that moment it was a good play by him to use his speed to spring free and allow a clean entry pass instead of a bad pass to one of the guards.

Usually the morning after is easier for fans
This one will probably take 2 days for the sick feeling to go away for many of us.

You either win...or you lose. The rest is just window dressing.
