Bad news- Obekpa leaving SJU

I hate to be the guy who kicks someone in the rear on their way out but...screw it. In 3 years this kid did not develop a single move offensively other than shooting a baseline fadeaway jumper while uncontested. He has 0 post moves. He tries to block everything and leaves his team exposed on the boards. He's a jerk who has a smug asshole smile on his face EVERYTIME he is called for a foul. Seriously has never fouled anyone in his life in his eyes. The weed thing was not a big deal to me, just about everything else pisses me off about him.

Yet you were more protective of a kid who you never saw play???? All your best wishes to Sampson yet good riddance to CO. At least be consistent

and also I strongly suggest you find a hobby

Give it a rest, please. Why would I give Brandon Sampson a hard time? he committed to one coach and had second thoughts...please one more time, give it a rest these two kids are nothing alike

And my point with "screw him" re Sampson was since he no longer is part of SJU why should I wish him luck. At least you got three years out of CO and he provided defense and great unintentional comedy. Why would I care if Sampson did well somewhere else.

In other news at least we should be able to get a top seed in the lottery right?

Refusal to enter a Big East tournament game after it was his own stupid fouls that landed him on the bench to begin with?

Head hunting with a cowardly elbow to the head for an opponent who was simply playing physical (resulting in an ejection and suspension)?

Testing positive for drugs in the advent of an NCAA tournament game? (costing us a shot at a tourney win)

(And those are just the highlights

Leaving our program one year early? PRICELESS

There have been few if any worse representatives of our school and program. No goodbyes for CO - just get your bags and get out.

Beast , Sirvoo et sl.
It's the proverbial addition by subtraction! Chris Mullin and staff have experience, moxie, a plan - CO apparently could not handle the "unreasonable" demands:
1.have a good attitude
2.make a good effort
3.allow yourself to grow up

all the best
It's not bad news

Everything at this point is a guess. Why is he leaving? We dion't know. Where is he going? We don't know. IS HE LEAVING? we don't know. Although a poster who has had good info in the past is insisting it is true.
Good or bad for the long term; it is a loss for next season.
We all see "good things ahead". What would a disaster of a season do to future recruiting?
I hope this is untrue and he stays. All the past BS is in the past. The only way this would be acceptable to me is if Mullin determined he was not a fit for the team or his plans going forward, and the fact is we will never hear that put out there as a reason for the departure.

Sure. Everything is in the past. In fact as soon as I write this sentence, it's in the past for me, and when you read it, it will be in the past for you.

But he affected the outcome of the very last game we played by his suspension. And conceivably he ended our previously season by his antics in the Providence game, which removed any shot of a tourney bid.

There is nothing in his performance over the past season to believe that there wouldn't be some sort of transgression that would hurt the team.

Peace guys he's gone and at best was a mixed blessing. As to a lottery pick, no but we do save $ for purposes of the salary cap...
Whatever
CO has many years to grow up and appreciate the opportunity he had at SJU. He just was not ready to mature here.
Most of us pro or con CO wish him well. We shall see what he does with himself.

Without significant improvement from CO this year, his production will not be missed. 6 PPG and 7 RPG we're talking about in 27 MPG. No reason to think a kid like Sima couldn't provide that with those kind of minutes. Sure, CO was a big time shot blocker, but he also tried to swat everything in sight. Led to him being out of rebounding position consistently, as well as an insane amount of awful goaltendings. Can't seem to find any goaltending stats, but I would think he was probably top 5 in the country.

You can make a case that he actually regressed from his FR to JR seasons. Coming off his great "Up In Smoke" finish last year prior to his one and only NCAA tourney appearance, any reason to believe he cared enough to even get better? And oh yeah, he thought he was so old school with the short shorts. He should've played in diapers instead.

CO was definitely a presence. He altered the opposing offense whenever he was in the game. He also was exceptional at keeping the ball in play on a block which made his shot blocking more valuable - essentially forcing a turnover instead of just a pause in the other team's offense. On offense though he got no respect which put more pressure on the guards. Personally I felt like sometimes he was sucking wind because he didn't focus enough on conditioning and I suspected that at times he committed dumb fouls just to get yanked... Smoking weed explained some of that.
Youth is wasted on the young.

We are a worse team next year without CO.
But we are a better program without him.

Damn, that's a great line. Not a good line. A GREAT line. Thoughtful. Concise. Dare I say, poetic. It speaks to the tragedy that is CO while also exemplifying the bedrock morals of Chris Mullens. God it's hard to impress myself, but there it is yet again. Guys, please don't overload the system with "thanks" but don't let that stop you either. Please do what your heart tells you. I love you all.

I like CO as a player, and think he has made some big improvements since he's been here.
(lets not forget he was a very weak re bounder initially, and he's worked hard to be a pretty good one now).

But at the risk of igniting a sh*t-storm, what the hell was Lavin doing? Obekpa and Jordan were selfish and undisciplined from their very first days here. I love our guys because they're our guys. But we've had a roster loaded with problems year after year.
If the first thing Mullin has to do is clean the program up ... so be it. Eventually we'll have a solid foundation.

You would assume CO has improved since when he first arrived, but in reality he hardly has in any aspect of his game.

His rebounding %s have gone up every year hes been here. That is the percentage of rebounds he grabs while on the floor.
Also, his much maligned free throw percentage has crept up each season as well.

Again, he's been a shitty teammate apparently...
getting suspended for pot, throwing intentional elbows, getting that selfish rebound against Humboldt State etc
But his game has improved.

I think Moose would love this, especially the reply to oneself.

plain and simple, you are insufferable.

Just saying, his #'s slightly went up in a few categories and also regressed in a few. Not like he went from 4 boards a game to 11. Marginal increase, also he was the only legit big man on the roster. That alone should've had him around 10 a game by default.

Don't forget, he played with a bad ankle for much of the season. He had a ton of potential., IMO.
