Bad news- Obekpa leaving SJU

Other than the fact that he had the talent to average 6 bpg if he could stay on the floor, I don't mind him leaving all that much. My big regret is that it didn't happen sooner so we could have found a immediately eligible transfer capable of manning the middle. Crossing fingers for Sima being here.

Cut this loser now! He has not demonstrated that he is worthy of wearing the SJU uniform!
We need to distance ourselves from these undisciplined recruits that have caused us much anguish during the Lavin years in particular!

Joseph Uchebo, a 6-10 tranfer from Pitt, is still available. He's eligible immediately and only has one year of eligibility left. I'd think Slice has some relationship with him, as would Durand Johnson. If the staff is that concerned about being undermanned at the center position they could look to bring him.

Usually when a student athlete leaves, I wish him well, thank him, and try not to insult him on the way out the door. So good luck Chris, but...
...I look forward to not being embarrassed at the game by your cheap shot at Butler. I look forward to learning that playing in NCAA tournament games is more of a high than weed. I also look forward to not watching a genetic lottery winner throw away his ticket, at least not while wearing the uniform of the program I love...

I am hearing that it is likely, but not a certainty, that Obekpa will not be back.

I am told that Mullin has decided that Obekpa's work ethic and attitude are not in line with that required to be on Mullin's team.

If that is the case, as I said in my previous post, then we have to trust Chris's judgement and move on. If it where another issue, I would hope that something could be worked out to leave him on the team. I was at the Fordham game and saw that elbow and was embaressed,It was a cheap shot . I would hope that another year of maturity and a new enviorment might help him "grow up". But if Mullin does not think it is in the teams best interest then I guess we will move on.

Just what the Dr ordered. Hopefully the staff will go after him

If the doctor ordered a guy who's scored 35 points in his college career I suggest getting a second opinion.

I knew it sounded too good.On the surface a 6 10 Pitt transfer w immediate eligibility sounds good after hearing CO is leaving. But the reality is, if he was good Mullin and Slice would have been all over him.

As much as I abhor Obekpa behavior's to date, I hope he stays and turns it around. For the last 2 years, he has been operating under a coach who desperately needed him on the roster to keep his job.

For those who are worried about another year of constant drama
under Mullin, it won't happen. Mullin will cut him off after the first offense.

Maybe he already has.

Two words that don't go together: Obpeka and Offense. Remember going into this last season he was going to be a double/double player. Oh please!

He is by far the number one shot blocker in school history and yet 90% are fine with this news - myself included. This is all you need to know. The ankle is a BS excuse. It takes an incredible amount of work for these talented kids to reach this level of play. Mullin is a prime example. Pointer, Harrison and Greene did not reach their level without putting in countless hours of work. CO was bent over and out breath three or four minutes into a game. These other guys looked fresh in OT and never came off the court.

I hope the guy turns himself around and lives up to his potential. He came here when he could have played for winning programs.

A liability on and off the court. Better to part ways now than in December when he would likely get kicked off the team. This is not bad news, it's just news.

There were a few guys I was thinking, and he was one of them. Maybe a change of scenery helps a kid who has underperformed his high school ranking, but at the very least he'd provide five extra fouls.

Good luck to Ellison, who will now be playing all five positions for us.

Maybe he could fill the hole JDR left :silly:
