Attendance

If you guys think attendance is bad now wait until all this conference jumping is done. MSG will be a ghost town except for UConn and Gtown games.

Sales will go down, hype way down, and our attendance will be like DePaul.

I think it should be a requirment to attend games before you can moan about our attendance woes.

JAMAICA, N.Y. -- "St. Johns freshman point guard Omar Cook (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) scored a game-high 25 points, connecting on six three-pointers, grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and handed out a game-high eight assists in his first game at Alumni Hall, leading the Red Storm to an 86-80 win over the California (Source) All-Stars in front of 5,438 fans on Friday night. Cook was one of four players in double figures for St. Johns and one of nine players to score."

I remember sitting in the exhibition crowd that night thinking we had the best lead guard in America. I also thought, coming off a BE Championship, we were back for the long haul.

Lav makes me feel we can make it all the way back

I remember going to the Duke/SJU game at MSG that year and Jay Williams making Omar Cook look like a junior varsity player. We got annihilated that game. And Duke alumni packed the Garden. Sickening experience that day.

Give any school the basketball success of Duke and you will draw crowds anywhere.

Huh?

Hope you are referring to Joe3 and not me. Season ticket holder for a long time.

Speaking of attendance, who is going to tomorrows game? BLACK OUT, they are hyping it up to be a sold out game, if everyone wears black (which is not a stretch in the winter in NY) carnnesseca arena will have a very nice effect, and show fan base solidarity

Will be the one game where majority of our dopey fan base wears red for a change. And before anyone jumps on me for saying dopey name one instance where our fan base has been able to organize anything. And I include my friends in dopey because they don't bother to wear red to the games either, and myself because i have never tried to lead any organized situation either so please don't get all defensive. HAPPY FACE (can't get boardcode symbols to work anymore).

All it takes is a major conference opponent, free shirts, and a cool theme like blackout lol night and day huh?

The Yankees have a promo to the first 18,000 per game. It must work or they wouldn't do it, I think the promo tonight should wake some people up. We could and should pack CA every night we play. It gives us a heck of an advantage

That amazing crowd makes me even more mad I had class tonight. Wish I could have been there. Looked like the crowd went all the way up to the ceiling on the sides!

Great crowd tonight. I was seated opposite the SJU bench with about 50 Australian high school students touring the US to playt basketball. The kids really knew basketball, and were cheering like mad for SJU. The crowd was into the game - students showed up loudly, and the place was alive.

Makes me think that if LAvin can continue to grow this program, it doesn't matter what becomes of the Big East, fans will fill this place.

Best thing about the kids is that they were really a well behaved group. The kids behind me knew the NBA as well as any American fan, speaking about Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups, and players who might be lesser known. They definitely use the same profanity as American kids, for sure. Funniest thing one of the boys said to the girls was regarding the Broadway show they are going to this weekend. He said something like, "Didn't you read the reviews online about Jersey Boys? It's BREATHTAKING!" Actually, really nice to see our program can hold the interest of some kids from across the globe.

I was sitting behind 2 60ish men who sat there for the whole game with their arms folded. Was close to telling them that even polite applause would be nice-helpful and appreciated.

Carnesecca really needs to change the seating around. Move the student section to the side like Duke. Make the fans closer to the game. It's too distant right now. The student section is like 10 feet up. It really makes it a much better atmosphere and fans can influence the game a lot more and be heard easier.

I kind of like how the students can be heard by the players (and by everyone in the arena). The "Who wears short-shorts" chant was great. The australian kids got a kick out of the "You suck" chant on missed free throws, but it gets old really fast. The "We ARE... St. John's" chant is nice when the sections behind each basket each chant part of it. Considering how dead long term ticket holders are, having the students concentrated and loud behind the basket seems to work well - even they can sustain attendance for crud games also.

By the way, off topic but watching the DePaul vs. Auburn game, and the announcers were talking about the Big East and what teams intrigue them. They listed Cuse, L'Ville, G'Town, ND, Cincy, and picked (get this) DePaul as a "sleeper". They are the bottom Big East team once again.
