He was also not a fan of Lavin if my memory serves me correctly
And, eventually, he won't like MA either. Arbitello has an unrealistic expectation of how much deference should be paid to him by any St. John's coach.
Interesting observation JF I appreciate the insights
nice to read behind the scenes “ stuff “ - posts by those of you more in the know than I a mere mortal poster lol
I am so pleased with what’s unfolding with our program and team - Do not expect perfection or immediate success - but it is hard not to get excited now, agree? Difficult not to dream 2019-20 could be as good a season as 2018-19.
Many of the issues we had for decades are dissipating before our eyes - a good coach, winning pedigree, approachable, not afraid to speak up/ take charge/ hire a talented staff/ go after solid recruits.
Nice.

Thanks SS&G, but I wouldn't consider my posts to contain inside or behind the scenes information. With Abitello, I am just going off of comments and tweets he has made over many years.

Very happy, it's 'official' with TJC. The AHC spot 'inevitable'was I think once Mel W opted to stay home.
Excited to see what JUCO and transfer plums TJC can get for us even at this late date and almost as enthused to see how he improves our guard play.
He worked a dramatic improvement in the Razorback guards when he first became an AC there.
Melvin didn’t “opt” to stay home. CMA just decided to go in a different direction with this job. MW is almost 65 years old. Wanted to come, but MA shut it down. TJ has been more like the AHC the last 4-5 years anyways regardless of title.
Thanks for that, Big Red. Says that Mike is indeed hungry again and is keen on building this Staff to 'go'. Also guessing that means we need a 'big man' AC. Van Macon maybe?
We shall see.

I think it was probably long due for TJ Cleveland to take the reigns at this point. I also do prefer someone younger and hungry to recruit etc. Having a youthful, yet experienced staff is good for us imho.

No doubt, MCNPA. From what I've read, it doesn't get much better than TJC for an AHC / recruiter / guards coach. Hoping to add another AC soon.

Unfortunately my son has not seen anyone from SJU at Dallas, and not saying he will. At his game last night against Chauncey Billups he said there were 25 coaches most notably Marquette ( Joseph Chartouny is from the same program as my son ) and Oregon State ( Chris Boucher was also from Montreal) , and a host of smaller schools.
Said Roy Williams was sitting courtside prior to his game this afternoon. Kids were in awe.
Tonight they play Compton Magic with 7 footer Evan Mobley the number 1 player in the class Of 2020. They also have a kid in the top 60. I imagine many coaches will be there.

Yes, it's disappointing no SJU rep is there. I wonder why CMA & TJC both journeyed to Atlanta?
And surprising, given it's the SW where both roamed effectively until recently.
Maybe there are some JUCO & transfer recruits in GA / FL they plan to double-team early next week.
Hopefully, their first stop is Niceville, Florida.
Lol.

Perhaps Anderson knows what he is doing. Sheez!

Totally believe in Iron Mike. Just joking.

The staff is paid to go recruit players they want. Not to just be seen at events. If all the guys Mike wants are at Nike then so be it.

Have to admit you had me worried, Chicago.

Actually stunned at the reaction. The guy knows what he’s doing and what has to be done. I joke all the time. I fully expect him to ‘close’ on 2019 Juco / transfer targets. Guess that didn’t come across.
Lol.

Anderson needs some time to get more staff together as well. He’s been on board for a week. More recruiters will be covering events when that happens, I’m sure of it. Still very happy to see Coach Mike and TJ front and center this weekend. It’s a good sign.

Wasn't concerned so much about the staff's attendance (or rather, lack of) in Dallas; was worried that maybe you had a mini-stroke or something for taking shots at CMA's decision-making so soon after his taking the job. Just didn't sound like the Chicago Days we're familiar with.

Hey Red, so here goes it: I thought 1 guy or a ‘deputized’ DOBO would be in Dallas a center of the typical AOO of the Jones/Cleveland team.
They were both in Atlanta and zero DOBO’s were ‘deputized’.
Then I noodled that Javion Hamlet was a short plane ride away in northwest Florida, that Javon Franklin was likely in MS and that Demarkus Lampley, a potential high-scoring guard target was likely in AL...and with open recruiting starting Monday, I figured 1 or both of Iron Mike and /or TJC would visit one or more of these guys sometime during that 4/29-5/2 open recruiting period.
Then, I joked about their first trip being to ‘Niceville, FL’ where NWFSC and Hamlet, ‘reside’.
That’s the whole story.
The joke’s on me.
Lol.

Speaking of Dallas;
All-American Availables Showcase – Dallas (NCAA Certified) has event today. Logical to think SJU will have presence there today considering the short term needs of the program.
