Assistant Coaches

fwiw, despite what was written by Roger R in the NY Daily News, i am hearing ZERO interest from Book for an assistant position at SJU.

What are you hearing when it comes to PJ?

I'm thrilled that our youngest regular poster (who shows more maturity than at least 50% of us and maybe more) is completely excited about Mullin coming here, and has a great sense of what this means to the university and our basketball program. Nicely done, Jack.

Staff of Slice, Matt A (who will deliver Diallo), Pickney, Terrence as DOBO plus perhaps one other former SJU player will be fantastic.

We will now win when it counts; not only in the press conference like the past decade.

Chances of Slice coming?

hearing very good things.
of course, we will have to wait unitl bext week when Kentucky's season is over, but it looks good from everything i have heard.

Let's hope, but sounds like the staff will be very good regardless. Plus all the positive vibes from all over is great.

Beast, today and yesterday have been awesome. Such a great time to be a fan. Obviously never saw mullin play but I know with his connections he will hire a great staff, and also with his nba experience as a player and in the front office will make players want to play for him to get to next level. Picture how good of a pitch this will be to a top 100 kid.

"I think you are extremely talented and a great basketball player. I played in the nba for several years and also took a front office position with the kings. I personally know what it takes to have a long and successful career in the nba, and I also know what the higher ups in nba organizations look for when evaluating draft prospects. Come to SJU and we will have you ready to impress the draft scouts, and also prepared to play well when in the NBA and have a long successful career."

What parent or player wouldn't be extremely intrigued by that pitch? I am extremely confident

What are you hearing when it comes to PJ?

heard the name, not sure if there are legs to the rumor.
he lives in Seattle, will inquire today....

Chris should give Calhoun a call. He lives much closer and has always loved the Big east. He doesn't seem like the type who would enjoy retirement.

I think Calhoun knows how to coach, and I like hearing him do analysis during games.
But if Calhoun was ever sitting on our bench at Carnesseca Arena, I would probably throw up.

Guys focus, focus. Stay on track. No way Calhoun would be consulted or be given any type of position at St. Johns. Don't you remember how Calhoun stole a recruit of two from us?

To be honest I would be shocked if Louie would give his blessings on PJ coming here either.

Honestly, this is all just chatter, and I love it all. Some guys have more inside information than others, which is great.

I cannot remember the last time we had such a positive vibe on here.. Probably after the Pitt game, but not after a hire. Everyone is almost dizzyingly giddy, which is fantastic.

Not that I think it is happening, but yes I can see PJ getting his blessings. Calhoun is not leaving New England and definitely would do nothing to assist St. John's.

Chris and Easy Ed have been friends good friends for years. I recall the Holiday Festival (when it was still at least a good tournament) where both us and Nova were invited and had to play each other in the Championship. despite a 3" height difference, Mo had to guard Pinckney. Great game and great victory by St. John.s.

There will be a lot of names out there, but this will sort out soon enough. Matt A will come Imo & Pinkney seems likely. Net of that, I'll wait to see how Slice plays out & not worry about other slots until then. Trusting Mullin to make right choices seems prudent.

Top 50 all-time NBA player + an all-time top coach should really jack up our 5K crowd attendance. I was sad to see Lavin go but just GIDDY with Chris Mullin. Excited for the Big East with a strong St. Johns. Hope DePaul and Seton Hall get their act together. The rest of the teams will be much stronger. LMF and Paultz, Mcgoogle (sp?), a few others--you guys pretty much called it.

Someone needs to fix the damn Holiday Festival. It's a joke.
There's no reason it can't be a two day championship.
I've said this before but it should always be SJU and Syracuse, and then 1 A10 school and 1 MAAC school, with SJU and Cuse separated for the first game, and probably 9 times out of 10 they would play in the winners game on Sunday.

The Holiday Festival was great in the day. Double headers for one price. Teams like Duke and Kansas, and Duquesne and South Carolina when they were powerhouses. Sitting in the Garden and scouting future opponents. I guess part of being a SJU fan is reminiscing about the good old days. Well maybe the good old days are coming back.

Why would Ed Pinckney leave the Chicago Bulls as a full-fledged assistant on Thibodeau's staff to become an assistant at SJU?

Edit: Oh nevermind. Didn't realize Thibodeau might be out.

I think he (CM) should put Louie an the bench. Give him a notebook ala Keady and let him keep track of anyone who dares shoot beyond 12 feet! OK,15 feet.

Wow, hard to imagine, and turns my stomach a bit, but at the end of the day, having Calhoun on the bench would be incredible.

Calhoun is practically public enemy #1 for any St Johns fan. Do you not remember all of the shady recruiting and the fact that the program was found to have numerous recruiting violations under his watch? Lets not even mention how Calhoun also took advantage of gray areas and would play preseason games with AAU Senior teams to funnel money to the AAU programs so he could secure their players.

Please stop with the Calhoun talk already
