Assistant Coaches

Ed grew up in the Bronx and could help with recruiting in the NYC area
My friend was one of his teachers at Adlai Stevenson HS
He told me that Ed was a very nice and respectful kid

@AdamZagoria: All signs point to Ed Pinckney joining Chris Mullin's staff at St. John's after the Bulls season ends, sources told @SNYtv

wow I know it's been mentioned but that's crazy

I know. We all know there's turmoil in the front office at Chicago, but for an nba assistant go to the college game for another assistant job is crazy.

Him and Chris must be very close.

Yeah going from a Bulls assistant to a current day SJU assistant is remarkable. Mullin has hit a five run homer with these assistant coaches.

I think it all boils down to who Ed wants to work with. It appears he has a very good relationship with Mullin and that is key. Plus Villanova and St. John's don't have a strong rivalry. The St. John's fans all cheered our lungs out for Villanova in Lexington during the 1985 final four and Ed was right there hearing and seeing us.

No it's not crazy at all
Looks like Thibideau will be canned along with his staff at the end of the season

Unless they win an NBA championship, which isn't out of the realm of possibility. I don't see them getting rid of a staff that wins it all.

Would he be the X's and O's guy for in game coaching? I think we could use a specialist like that.

The owner hates Thibodeau. He's gone even if they win a championship, which they absolutely won't.

I don't think Pinkney is at St. Johns very long. I think he is getting a college HC job within a few yrs.

I suspect same thing, but that's perfectly cool by me.

As a city kid maybe he feels guilty for helping to bring a NC to nova instead of New York's team ST. JOHN'S! :)

X's and O's isn't exactly an elite, arcane science or magical formula that only a few "specialists" can grasp. I'm confident that a couple of proven, brainy players like Mullin and Pinckney will not have any problems drawing up plays, dissecting defenses, etc, and getting their points across to players.

Yeah, I think that's the part that's going to come easiest to Mullin. It may take him one season to fully understand all of it, but he was a great observer of the game on the court. That should translate over to the sideline, IMO.

I'm not sure if he's an X's and O's coach per se, but I'll definitely take someone with that kind of experience. Between Mullin and Pinckney, you'd have 28 seasons of NBA experience on your coaching staff.

Not a bad resume when talking to potential recruits.

Can't remember if I ever posted this, but it's a good read. Sounds like Easy Ed has a lot of responsibilities, and Thibs is good with the X's and O's, so he's likely picked up some nice plays along the way to implement.
