Around the Big East

Looks like former Michigan assistant and current Milwaukee head coach LaVall Jordan is emerging as a favorite for the Butler job. He's a Butler alum, having played for the Bulldogs from 1997-2001, and was an assistant there 2004-07 (under Todd Lickliter), so it would be still be keeping it in the family, the Butler way. Caveat is that fans believe he has his eyes on eventually succeeding Bielien in Ann Arbor ... but if that were to happen, it would likely be a few years down the road.

While Jordan has a reputation as a good recruiter, apparently he faces a big challenge. According to David Wood of the Indianapolis Star, "All three of Butler's full-time assistant coaches — Johnson, Pedon and Mike Schrage — are expected to follow Holtmann to Ohio State. That would leave Jordan to assemble an entirely new staff and try to retain what has been the highest-rated recruiting class in Butler history." Be interesting to watch this unfold.

Butler's greatest recruiting class in their history consists of one 4 star player and four 3 star players. If St. John's had a recruiting class like that how many fans would be bitching about it? Yet Butler has been better than us for years now.

It's called player development and improvement, and coaching. Something that has been sorely lacking at St. John's for quite a long time (not a comment on Mo as he hasn't been here long enough to evaluate).

What was the purpose of this quote?

I'd take a recruiting class like that every year. Heck, Seton Hall is doing it Delgado, Desi, Carrington, and Ish. That's a 4 and 3 threes.

Butler always had template of sharing ball, three point shooting ability & defending aggressively. In some ways they overachieved with occasional stars like Hayward, but mostly three star types, who were developed nicely as you stated.

Well if we can't beat up on Syracuse next year or two, will be fun to watch Nova smash on Uconn a bit!

Creighton center Justin Patton has earned a Green Room invite for the NBA Draft, per @DraftExpress. They project him 17th to the Bucks.

Villanova is a combined 63-9 in Big East regular season games over the past four years. League's 2nd best in same span is Xavier at 42-30.

Butler loses 4 * recruit Kyle Young to Ohio State as he chooses to follow head coach Holtmann. OSU also involved with Luther Muhammad.

If Mr. Muhammad does indeed follow Coach Holtmann to OSU (biting my tongue as I say that), the silver lining is we won't have to deal with him in-conference at BU.

Butler has incoming freshman Christian David a 6 5 two guard like Luther. Christian was ranked around number 75. Nothing against Butler but Luther would be fighting for pt there for the next 3 seasons if that is where he would choose.

Nice pick-up. Ed Cooley is no joke. Strong coach, hard worker.
