Sorry, but you guys are making it sound like this doesn't happen at almost every school every year. I don't care if he was a blue chips brother, if he was the least needed let him go. Add to that, he is still on scholi in another sport, so he is still getting his education paid for. Not like we didn't just push out 2 of our own in CJ ad AA this year. RING...RING...hello, Pot, this is The Kettle.

There is a clear difference between a coaching staff discussing future plans and letting a player decide their future with information and forcing a player out. I am not saying Mullin and co. are pristine by any means because I do not know but I did not hear the negative feedback from AA or Jones that evidently the Ellensons are expressing.

Some 750 ball players will transfer. 749 will transfer for playing time reasons. This will be an annual event at SJU like all other colleges.

If you weren't in the room, you don't know what happened or what was discussed. And of course they used Wally to get Henry there for the year, but if Henry cared at all about the program or the school, he would understand that his brother does not help the team, has a free ride in another sport, he got to play division 1 basketball for a year with his brother (which to my knowledge no one else was offering) and now they are all moving on, Henry to the NBA, and Wojo to better the program. Welcome to the grown up world. If he wants his brother to have a spot so badly, all he needs to do is stay in school. This stuff happens everywhere guys.

I did not read all the posts on this, and I am not a fan of Wojo(or his mentor) either, but why do some of you automatically assume that he was forced off the team and that he didn't leave by choice to concentrate on track? With his brother gone, and his future minutes looking very limited, maybe he just decided that it was time to give up basketball for track. Did it say anywhere that he was leaving to play at another school?

Anthony, ethics aside, it's just not a smart move. This is getting bad publicity and won't do him any favors recruiting in the future. This is Wojo's only lottery pick and will remain that way until he brings in another top 10 recruit.

Wally has stated in the past how much he loves playing and despite him being better at track and field wants to remain on the basketball team.

Wally and Henry just unfollowed Wojo on Twitter too.

Because his entire family has expressed they are upset with wojo and the basketball program...

It is getting bad publicity because the family is whining about it instead of thanking Wojo and Marquette for being the only D1 school to offer the opportunity for Henry and Wally to play together. Anybody hear of any other D1 schools banging down the doors to get Wally to transfer? There's a reason for that...he's not a D1 caliber player! They should be grateful and instead they bitch and moan.

Depends how it was presented to the kids/family. They obviously expected more. Your kid gets the bum's rush and you won't be happy. As others have said, it is stupid and short sited. Just confirms that Wojo has no long term plans at Marquette. The alternative is that he's an idiot but that is inconceivable with his Duke education...

Wally's D1 Basketball career started at Minnesota.as a recruit under Tubby Smith. He transferred to Marquette after his sophomore year.

He didn't see much time while at Minnesota either.

Sorry, but this is the entitlement generation where everything should just be given to them, and parents are enablers. Wally did not do enough to hold a place on the team. If he was a better basketball player he would still be there. It is really that simple. His only real benefit to the team was that he could get his brother there. Now his brother is gone and he is no longer a benefit so he is gone too. That's life. It is how the world works. If you are not useful you will not be around whether that is in big time college sports, or in a career. Believe me, I understand it better than most. A little over 2 decades ago I broke my knee cap in half and was told by a doctor I would never play soccer competitively again. The next sentence I heard was my college coach telling me that I would have full use of the facilities to rehab for as long as I was a student but if I wasn't going to be able to play again they would have to pull my scholarship starting the next semester. A year and a half later I was back playing on scholarship. It's called earning your spot, not riding anyone's coat tails! And maybe Wojo expected more. Maybe he was told Henry would stay at least 2 years. Again, we don't know, we are all just making assumptions. I am really sick of this generation. Bunch of whiny freaking babies!

A little bit of assumptions on your part and a lot of bitterness. Glad things worked out well for you but please don't generalise. Family is upset because they were obviously promised different things. Otherwise there is no reason for there to be sour grapes on their part.

No bitterness at all on my part. Answer this. Do the Ellenson's care at all about Marquette, or the basketball program? If yes, then Wally no longer being a part of it is the best thing. He still got to play for a year with his brother. He is still getting a free education. He was not going to help the basketball team if he kept a spot, and by taking his spot from him it gives them an opportunity to fill it with someone that can help the team. If the answer to the question is no, then by all means, they should whine and complain.

I don't dispute the entitlement sentiment but it is not entitlement if you were promised something and then it was taken from you. That is a broken contract. If you are making A$$umptions, logic is on the side of the parents here. Most parents won't sacrifice one kid for another and this kid could been a one and done for any team and he went to a floundering Marquette. His brother sat a year right, just to be able to play with his younger bro? Why would he do that only to have to transfer yet again? Favor players often get treated like ugly furniture, but when it is a matter of family you better be smart enough to do that right especially the family of your poster boy.

That's big news. DSR is the only player they're losing and adding a few pieces. No excuse for anything less than a tournament appearance next year.

Interesting commentary re the new assistant coach replacing Andre L & how it relates to their recruiting;
