Latest AP Poll for the Big East:
#1 Villanova
#5 Xavier
#20 Providence

Two teams in the top five in both polls. Not too shabby.

Apparently this the first time for Nova ever attaining #1 ranking.

Except, of course, after the 1985 NCAA Tournament. That's the only national championship team to lose to the same team 3 times in the championship year. Trivia question: What team beat them 3 times?

Their football team also won the 1-AA championship about 5 or 6 years ago.

Correct. Swept them in the regular season, and won again in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament.

Apparently, it was written in SI that the Villanova players were in the stands watching our national semifinal game (we were the 2nd game of the doubleheader), and were openly rooting for Georgetown to win. It seems they felt like Pinckney could hold his own against Patrick Ewing (which he more then did), but that they had no answer for Mullin.

Halftime: Creighton leading Xavier 37-27 behind 10 pts/5 ast from Watson. CU leads the rebound battle 25-18 so far.

Not Big East news, but Roy Williams fainted in UNC's team huddle during a timeout early in the 2nd half (versus Boston College). Hopefully, he's gonna be fine.

Because they probably couldn't beat them the forth time especially if Jensen shot 10 for 10 again. Beside it's very hard to beat a team that's good multiple times. In 1975 St.John's had a chance to beat Providence three times but couldn't do it and lost in the NIT semi's

There's no guarantee that Nova would have shot 70 percent against a different team though. Different defense moves guys to different parts of floor. Could have shot 30 percent with a whole bunch of rim clangers.

Seton Hall goes down to Butler at the Rock, and Marquette deals Providence a crushing blow in double OT (for the sweep). From what I've seen in the last couple of weeks, Kris Dunn is not only not the best player in the country, he's not even the best player on Providence.

Marquette holds on for a 96-91 win over No. 20 Providence in double OT. Henry Ellenson led #mubb with 26 pts. Ben Bentil had 42 for PC.

Bentil was an absolute monster in taht game. He could not miss from the 3 point line and was always getting open. Cheatem almost became the goat of that game by going to the basket after a rebound with about 8 seconds left in the first OT, instead of taking the ball back out and dribbling off time. It was a good game to watch.

I thought Bentil was a promising player last year, but boy has he really developed. He can shoot, is a beast down low & remarkably, for a big, is a great foul shooter. As some guys have said, would not be surprised if he goes pro after this year, leaving Cooley with tough season in 16-17.

Maybe so, but Cooley has proven himself to be a top level recruiter time and time again, so I wouldn't expect Providence to be down for long. No, Cooley is not the brightest bulb in the shed when it comes to in-game coaching, but he has shown the ability to recruit over that.

Bentil's stock is shooting up like a rocket. If he continues to deliver the rest of the season, then I don't see him back at Providence next season.

hes should be a late round pick then be a project for a good team in the nba next year

the NBA draft only has two rounds so not sure there is a "late round" pick.

plus if he is projected as a project that means he is a D-league player and if that is the word he is getting he will stay in school. Unless he gets some first round guarantees he will be back.

Producing like he is a soph is not a project. Not saying it will translate to the NBA, but he has skills. The 7 footers who can't score are projects.
