@jensenoffcampus: Sources say Mark Jackson from USC will be new Villanova AD.

@jensenoffcampus: Jackson, new Nova AD, has a football background. Former Pete Carroll assistant both with Patriots and at USC before moving to administration

Hopefully his hire will not portend Nova going D1 football route one day. They have entertained notion for a while.

Don't like the sound of this.

Playing career[edit]
Jackson attended Colby College where he played football as a defensive back from 1991 to 1994.

Coaching career[edit]
Jackson began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Trinity College (Connecticut) from 1995 to 1996. After earning his master's degree in public policy from Colby in 1997, Jackson joined the New England Patriots' coaching staff as a special teams coaching assistant under then-Patriots head coach Pete Carroll in 1998. Carroll was fired following the 1999, but Jackson stayed on with new head coach Bill Belichick's coaching staff as a special teams and running backs coaching assistant through 2000. In 2001, Jackson rejoined Carroll, then the head coach at the University of Southern California, as the school's director of football operations and assistant athletic director, a position he held through 2005. In 2006, Jackson served as Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Syracuse University before being hired as Vice President of Athlete Development at the boxing development firm A2 Holdings. In 2007, Jackson was hired by Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin as the team's director of football development. On December 15, 2008, Raiders head coach Tom Cable announced that Jackson had been relieved of his duties amid a public departure of Raider assistant James Cregg who joined Kiffin's staff at the University of Tennessee.[1]

Sorry Paultzman! Honestly wasn't trying to steal your thunder, I just missed your post. I think Mark Jackson as the new AD is a done deal, it will be officially announced today at 2pm. The fact he is the new hire though is very interesting and has a lot of people talking about the direction Villanova is looking to go with this.

Dayton.

What league gonna want Nova as another partner to split the pot with?

Unless they start drawing 50,000 a game for football none of the big conferences are going to want to deal with them.

Think Coach K would push for them to join the ACC, even if they draw 20,000 a game for football.

Why not?
The U doesn't draw a whole lot more than 20,000 for their home football games

I don't care what those numbers say
Watch The U on TV when they are "at home"
The stadium is 3/4 empty
Major problem is that Sun Life Stadium is about 45 minutes away from campus

I can't see them going to ACC even if they can somehow get up to 30,000 attendance. I think The American would be a better bet for them, but even then we are getting ahead of ourselves. Also a 30,000 seat stadium doesn't yet exist in Philly, PPL (the MLS Stadium) is too small for ACC standards and any number they drew at Lincoln financial would look really bad in a 70,000 seat stadium. (Not to mention scheduling conflicts with Temple and over use of the field) That said maybe they can expand Villanova Stadium to ACC standards and fill it, I dunno.

Boston College averages 34,000,
The ACC brought them in for the TV market-not.
I live up here-it's Patriot country.
The ACC game of the week on channel 38 draws squat.
yukon would get in before villanova.
Philly is pro football city.

I am unaware of any push by Villanova to move from FCS to FBS. My understanding is that Jackson was hired is because he is perceived to be a strong fund raiser and experienced with capital improvement. The Pavilion will be demolished/ remodeled within its current footprint in the next few years. Villanova has done a nice job of increasing its academic profile as evidenced by its average 1350+ SAT score by its most recent class.
