Around the Big East

@AdamZagoria: DePaul has agreed to release incoming freshman Raymond Doby from his NLI and grant Durrell McDonald’s request to transfer.

He will also get his degree next year, so there is that. Like I said there is a big insurance policy for future earnings if he gets hurt.

It's not even that. While I think it's highly unlikely, there is the possibility of his having a poor season, and playing himself out of the first round, or possibly off the board totally. Remember Chris Thomas from Notre Dame, around a decade or so ago? He was a boderline lottery pick as a sophomore, but stayed for his final two years, and went undrafted.

While I doubt that happens to Dunn, you just never know for sure. That's why, if a kid is a certain first round pick, I never begrudge him for leaving.

Good point. I remember Chris Thomas and that whole situation. He was fun to watch

I always think of Terence Morris from Maryland. He was probably a top 5 after his sophomore year, still a probable lottery after his junior year but lasted till the second round after his senior year.

I believe Thomas did declare for the draft after his sophomore year but pulled out after he did not receive any guarantees of being a first round pick.

Gibbs transferring. And due to BE rules we can't pick him up. Stupid rule... hurting your own conference. We could really use him.

I'm actually okay with this rule. The last thing I want to see is players, within a conference, playing musical chairs.

Well UConn is rumored to be the leader. I root for the Big East as a whole and I'd much rather him go to any BE program than UConn. Most likely he wouldn't be going to SJU regardless of the rule, but you never know.

Anyone else concerned with the Big East poor recruiting year? Only a handful of top 100 players where only Marquette, Villanova, and Georgetown are getting one. Can no longer sell best competition every game because it is not the truth. If you want to play the best competition it is not in the Big East sadly.

Six of the 10 Big East teams made it to the NCAA tourney this year. I'll take that all day long.

ACC with 5 in top 25 (5 for 15)
Big East with 3 (3 for 10)
Almost identical percentages.
Big 10 with 3 and I don't even remember how many schools they have.
Big 12, which sent 7 to the dance this year, with 1---repeat.............1

For anyone who thought VCU should have been considered for the Big East, we are now looking at why it was short-sighted. Shaka Smart didn't build the VCU brand, he built the Shaka Smart brand.

He left and now the program is in shambles. Will Wade was unable to keep any of the three top 100 guys they had committed for next season, Graham and Weber have graduated and now Larrier is transferring. They might have enough to stay around the middle of the pack in the A-10. But VCU is no longer a program that can just reload every year.
