If Dunn didn't return, they would be a lock for last place. I can't help but think Dunn made a very poor decision given his health issues and the lack of returning talent on the Providence roster.

They were last place with him.
At least this ensures no last place for SJU, but they'll be close.

Lost 50 ppg to graduation.
Bottom 3 is a lock.
Just being realistic.

@HoopDreamsMag: Expect Uconn to have interest in landing 7-foot-1 transfer Paschal Chukwu. Was recruiting him in HS and a resident of CT

Many in Ct. & PC hoops circle were shocked by this. Puzzling, considering all the PT he would have at PC.

yeah but when Chukwu declined to be interviewed for the article it seemed strange, now we know why.

Yup that's a fact.
However , I expect improvement from each of Rysheed and Obekpa, especially from Obekpa who is playing to be drafted. Look for less blocked shots and more boards and easy put backs.
Not sure what to expect from Ron M but 8 points a game is a reasonable conservative expectation. You can expect 10 points a game from Durand J at the 3 which is again a reasonable and conservative expectation. As I said previously I expect a lot from Williams as he can shoot the 3 well. I have gone on record publicly saying 15 a game and that might be optimistic but if others will shoot the 3 well it will provide him with great opportunities. Bottom line is the 3 new starters will combine for 30 plus points a game. Add in improvement offensively from Obekpa and contributions from AA and Felix, Sima and Ellison and there is a minimum of another 10 plus points a game for a team that should be a better defensive team given the huge increase in height and length.
Remember we still have 2 ships to give.
This are far from as glum as you see them Tom.

17 wins. And that's just fine.
A couple of games under .500 in the league. And that's just fine too. Gotta start somewhere, and those are numbers we can build from ... with this coach and staff.

In all my years of watching college basketball, there have been a ton of teams that have lost a lot or most of their offense, and I don't ever recall any of them coming out and averaging something miserable like 50 ppg the following season. Things will work out just fine.

Yep and last year who thought we'd be any good after Jakkar declared and Thomas was ruled ineligible? No one expected Dom or Greene to play as well as they did. No one expected us to be able to score with no inside presence. Yet we made the tourney with basically 6 good players.

Not many teams in our conference have a guard like Sheed and a center like Obekpa. I see Nova, Georgetown, and Butler as clearly better. Xavier is most likely better as well. We can beat out the rest of the league for 5th if things go our way. That would give us a shot at the tourney if we play well in the out of conference schedule.

Who knows what can happen. Injuries, transfers, and additional recruiting (Mussini, LoVett, etc) could still change things for better or worse.

An improved Obekpa? I don't see it. It will be a pleasant surprise to see him finish the season without another damaging incident.

Thankfully, we have a lot to look forward to next season with the other returning players, the new players and the new staff.

Because it's never too early to start the preseason rankings....this guy has us #8 in the Big East.

PRESEASON POWER RANKINGS, IN TWEET FORM

1. Villanova: On paper, Nova looks like a top ten team, but it will be interesting to see how their roster comes together. A lot of PGs, not many big men.

2. Georgetown: Getting DSR back was huge, but the key for the Hoyas this year will be the development of sophomores Isaac Copeland, LJ Peak and Paul White.

3. Xavier: I’m bullish on the Musketeers despite who they lost, but that’s mostly because I expect Trevon Bluiett and Jalen Reynolds to have big years.

4. Marquette: As I said earlier, the addition of Ellenson combined with the back court pieces Wojo has makes Marquette my favorite sleeper in the country.

5. Butler: Kellen Dunham, Roosevelt Jones and Tyler Lewis will be fun to watch, but who helps Andrew Charbacz along the front line?

6. Providence: Getting Kris Dunn back was huge. Losing LeDontae Henton will hurt, however. Ben Bentil and Jalen Lindsey need to take big steps forward.

7. Seton Hall: Losing Gibbs is killer, but with Isaiah Whitehead and Angel Delgado back and a couple talented transfers eligible, Pirates have some pieces.

8. St. John’s: It’s hard to see the Johnnies remaining a tournament team after losing D’angelo Harrison and Sir’Dominic Pointer.

9. DePaul: I love Billy Garrett Jr.’s game. I don’t love rehiring Dave Leitao.

10. Creighton: The rebuild after Dougie McBuckets was never going to be quick. Landing Justin Patton and Marcus Foster makes the future seem bright.
