Around the Big East

I think Neptune has made progress as a coach. All that team has is Dixon and Poplar. Longino is a useful role player. The rest of the roster is trash. He's done OK given his failure to recruit.

I suppose the other way to look at it is that guys like Perkins and Brickus can actually play and he has not coached schemes that make them useful, the sets are either Dixon or Poplar and that's it.

And I'm not sure whether U Conn's evisceration of Nova on the offensive end on 3-4 plays late in the game is a Neptune failure, Nova running out of gas, or Hurley forgetting about the refs for long enough to let his coaching ability go to work. Maybe a bit of all of the above.
I am not quite capable of assessing his coaching ability, other than from the cheap seats. But, I think he has probably saved his job when earlier in the season it looked like maybe not...

I think the issues with Neptune that many on here have observed, are basically the same issues we had with CMA. Often looks helpless on the sidelines, doesn't appear to be a good coach in the huddles, and doesn't seem capable of making adjustments throughout the game. The good news for Neptune is he's still very young so maybe he will improve. CMA was not young.

Wright left Nova a perennial national power. In 3 seasons, Neptune has reduced them to a mid-level Big East squad. Lost to Columbia. Beaten up regularly by the Philly Big Five in a year where not one of them will smell the tourney. Short of using plastic explosives to blow up Finneran, how much more damage could Neptune have done? Who do they have on this squad for next year’s team, and who’s going to want to go there? Program is in a death spiral.

Het lets Dixon do whatever he wants. The kid thinks he's a 6'8 260 shooting guard. Jay Wright didn't let him play like that...he was one of the top offensive rebounders in the country under Wright, averaging a crazy 3.3 offensive rebounds per game (with Jermaine Samuels to share with). Wright didn't let Eric Paschal play like that either at 6'8 260 with a better perimeter game.

Ageist ;) ;) There are a lot of posters on here who think we are like fine wines who improve with age.🍾

From your mouth to G D's ears !!!!!!!!!

Assuming that we beat DePaul then on Sunday we can eliminate UConn from regular season title contention.

I believe that if we win at Butler and home for the Hall then the Marquette game will not matter for conference standings. It's possible that the Seton Hall game won't matter either but hopefully we don't lose that one.

Torn between

(A) wanting us to clinch the BE reg season crown at the Garden against Hall for Senior Day and a big crowd

AND,

(B) having that game be pure gravy to stay healthy and get ready for the real task at hand.

But it'll surely matter for tournament seeding. I do wonder if we win the next four, how much the STJ/Marq game will matter for either. It could be the difference of a 3 or 4 seed. The one week layoff btwn SH and Marq, while awkward timing, will be helpful in getting our guys much needed rest

Bingo !!! It's as simple as that.

What a relief it would be for we fans---coasting
into the Big East Tournament.

Doesn’t Creighton have something to say about this? Until Creighton loses another game, we won’t have any throwaway games.

I'm thinking we are up 3 on U Conn in the loss column. If we beat them this weekend we will be up 4 with 3 to play so that eliminates them.

We are up 2 on both Creighton and Marquette in the loss column. Since Marquette is the last game of the season if we beat DePaul tonight, U Conn this weekend, at Butler, and Seton Hall then going into the last game at Marquette we would still be up 2 in the loss column with one game to play.

Bottom line is (unless I'm wrong) if we win the next 4 we will lock up the regular season title irrespective of the last game.

As DK correctly points out the last game might make something of a difference in NCAA seeding.

I am not concerned about tonight or SHU. As between at Butler and home for UConn I am actually more concerned about at Butler, I think. But SJU will obviously be favored in all 4 and if they win them the Marquette game is meaningless - neither they nor Creighton can make up a 2 game deficit with one to play.

Now, if we lose one of the next 4, the Marquette game may be for all the marbles - and it may very well be all the marbles for us v Creighton, they have a much easier road the rest of the way than us or Marquette.

I don't know what the tiebreakers are though - it's possible that we would win on that basis even if tied with either Marquette or Creighton but I'd rather not worry about that....

This site lets you tweak game results and see how the tiebreakers play out. Best case scenario is to win the next four and not have to worry about any of it.

There are no tiebreakers for regular season champs. A tie results in co-champions.

There are tie breakers for BE tournament seeding, with head to head being the first factor considered.
