Around the Big East

This Providence-Creighton game is a banger. 1 point game with 7 mins left.

Seton Hall is a disaster. I don’t even know what to say. Butler is not that good this year. I genuinely feel bad for them. I want to beat them but I don’t want their athletic department to implode. Be competitive.

I didn't want to be that person and say they should drop to the Atlantic 10, and apparently Jon didn't want to come right out and say it either.
It's crazy because they've generally been good over the past decade. Last year they should have been a tournament team. And then all of the sudden out of nowhere they literally hit rock bottom. I mean this is worse than the usual DePaul bottom feeding team. Just stunning and I generally do feel bad for their fans.

AsIde from more NIL $, Holloway is going to need a Mike Anderson type OOC schedule to prop up some W's next year.

It really is disheartening that historically competitive teams are now left to be sideshow.

If parity cannot be more closely reached though caps, I can't see how 365 teams remain in D1. There will need to be some other separation.

It is acclimation to the new landscape that has so far eluded them. I'd give it another few years, but if they can't compete, then they'd probably have to do something else.

Holloway risks soiling his coaching rep so I would not be surprised if he left after this year, if he has any attractive offers. He can spin the narrative that he wants to go somewhere where he can compete. I personally think he is not a great caoch (other than probably being a good guy for the athletes) but to me he's more a whimner than coach. Just me.

As for the Hall, and a lot of other schools in similar situations, the next year or 2 or 3 will determine which can stay competitive and which can't and have to change. But for the grace of God (and RP and Repole), we might be in the same boat.

What an untenable position for a competitor like Sha. Hopefully a smart AD at reasonably endowed program will see past this NIL SH downfall and give him a shot. For those who say “he recruited these guys” understand no one can land BE level kids with no $ of substance to compete with.

We can celebrate our success, appreciate SJU NiL resources, but a few more BE implosions like SH will obviously weaken the league. If you only have quality endowed programs like UConn, Creighton, SJU, M”Q and suspect GT, the BE is in trouble re attendance for “walkover” games, quality wins available, etc.

As noted before by a poster, even tradition rich, well attended PC has to demonstrate recruiting NIL productivity. A relatively small BE compared to mega conferences really has to think strategically about adding well endowed programs while making hard decisions about situations like SH. Hopefully Ackerman is up to the task, but can’t say I’m confident about that. “Adapt or perish” seems apt.

He’s played an Anderson-style OOC the past 2 years.
