Around the Big East

Every team in the big east stsrt 1-0.

Oh wait a minute..........

Hahahahahahaha. Nova is pathetic!
Nova won their first game Monday night against Lafayette so like the other Big East teams, they did start their season 1-0. Their loss last night makes them 1-1.

I don’t know why they thought it was a good idea to play their first four games within nine days.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he gets Jarvised tomorrow
I don't see that. Jarvis/SJU relationship was in terrible shape by the 2003-4 season. That is not true with Kyle and Villanova. Jay still has pull there and he is Kyle's biggest booster.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kyle after he took the Fordham job. I can't tell you how much work he put into cleaning up the culture there. He was terrific. I would have liked to see him stay a few more years but obviously he is not turning the Villanova job down.

Again I like him a lot but this is a results oriented business. And the results are not there. And the expectations are not falling.

I think he will get this year but the patience there is running out. I don't see him surviving without a NCAA tourney bid at a minimum.

While in all likelihood Jarvis and St. John’s would have parted ways at the end of the season, it was his off court behavior and insubordination that was the final straw and got him canned during the season, not the on court performance of the team. I don’t see that happening at Nova let alone after 2 games.

His relationship with Harrington had deteriorated so rapidly especially when his extension never materialzied ater the 2002-3 season that it was a matter of time before the split happened. The poor start to 2003-4 season became a perfect excuse to part ways mid-season. I believe for the record that it was the first time any BE school had dismissed a coach in mid-season.

They need to fire Neptune ASAP. Good guy, bad coach. Try to salvage this season.

He is just one of many examples that shows why I don't want Rick Pitino to be able to name his own successor, whe he decides to hang it up here, regardless of how well he does.

Unfortunately, I can see him doing something like Tony Bennett just did, and resign just before the start of a season. That would probably lock us in to his guy, for at least one year.

His non appearance at the President’s Dinner (might of been another important Dinner) was the final straw.

RJ makes weekly honor roll:

QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2024) –
Fresh off a pair of victories last week against Fordham and Quinnipiac, St. John’s junior wing RJ Luis Jr. was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league on Monday.

Luis averaged 18.0 points shooting 50.0 percent (12-24 FG) from the floor and 90.9 percent (10-11 FT) from the charity stripe over the two game stretch. The Miami native also registered 7.5 rebounds per game, including 3.0 boards on the offensive glass.

A 6-foot-7 wing, Luis recorded 12 points in the team’s 92-60 season-opening victory over Fordham on Monday, knocking down two of his four makes from behind the arc. He also registered two rebounds, an assist and a block in just 13 minutes of work.

UConn, while still very good and deserving of a top 10 ranking, clearly does not have the same ceiling as the last two squads IMO.

But, man, can some of their guys shoot.

They have an unheralded freshman forward that looks like he will be an NBA pick too…can’t remember his name but he reminds me of RJ.

I watched a decent portion of their game vs New Hampshire and came away with the same thought.

They might have been just SO good the past 2 years… that it’s strange watching a “top15” UConn team…

I really think they are missing Newton. I was not impressed watching Mahaney run point.

Down low… Sanogo / Clingan aren’t walking through that door anymore…

Real lucky Karaban returned.

I think we split with them this year.

Damn I love Marquettes backcourt. It’s hard to think of a time where I havnt actually.

Chase Ross is the best stud to join.
