Around the Big East

They won a national championship as a member of the AAC. The narrative of their basketball program being nothing at the AAC by this board is honestly laughable. It was more about the NCAA screwing them over + the administration shooting themselves in the foot. Hiring Hurley would've made them a national power regardless.

Our prenup with them is 30 million dollars, and including them in the negotiations for a future TV deal. Without them, we'd be doomed to either ESPN+ offerings with an occasional ESPN2 game and/or CBS Sports Network games.
They won a national championship based on the recruits they brought in from the Big East I believe, Hurley himself accomplished nothing in the AAC.

That’s the way UCONN looks at the rest of the conference. And not just this year after last years success. They will be gone soon no matter, as they desperately want to be in a football conference and eventually will get something done somehow.

And make no mistake they were no power when the Big East threw them a lifeline. With a crazy low buyout. If you want to marry someone who you know is flirting with anything with a pulse behind your back - ok - but you have to get a big prenup.
UCONN doesn’t see it this way, but BE made them and then re-made them. . .they sucked pre-BE and then were on their way to apathy-ville when we brought them back in.

Sounds like the top 3 at DePaul are Moser (the top choice but has a massive buyout at OU that may be a blocker), Bobby Hurley (Feeling the heat at ASU), and now Holtmann

I would be shocked if they landed any of those three guys
Moser wants out of OU and he was always hesitant to leave Chicago especially with how much his wife loved it there. Sounds like both he and DePaul want to do it but they may not be able to overcome that buyout.

Bobby Hurley is going to be on the hot seat next year for sure. His results at ASU have been mediocre at best. Getting out ahead of it and resetting the clock would make a ton of sense for him.

Holtmann isn’t likely to get another crack at a power conference gig right out of the gate. Heard him mentioned with Saint Louis which would make sense for both but it’s not better than DePaul and he probably won’t be able to do better than DePaul

DePaul has the $ to get one of these guys (moser buyout is a diff story). They’re doing those facilities renovations. I think they’re finally serious about getting competitive again.

Was hoping they’d target Schertz rather than a guy getting run out of his previous job.
