Around the Big East

Creighton is still in the top 25 , so the Win by PC
last night was BIG. Even though the Friars held serve on their home court .
We don’t have that Ranked opponent Win and need it badly as so many others have posted already .

Butler , PC , X and SH all have better resumes right now than we do . It’s not inconceivable that those 4 plus UCONN and Marquette , Creighton would be the BE 7 teams in the Tourney ? Doubtful .
What do we have to do to get ourselves into the Dance ? Win them all!

When we play PC again up there , Soriano is going to have his work cut out trying to defend Oduro . Maybe RP puts Ledlum on him or goes Zone ? Oduro basically outplayed Kalkenbrenner last night by a wide margin , no pun intended . And , Carter was All World for a night .

Winning needs to start Saturday … A loss puts us in jeopardy . Not impossible but , we have to beat a Ranked Team sometime ..
Hopefully sooner rather than later this obsession with "ranked" teams will be put to bed. The AP poll is an outdated dinosaur that doesn't mean anything of actual importance anymore. Providence's win last night would mean exactly the same even if Creighton didn't happen to be "ranked" by dopes like Jeff Goodman and Andy Katz

So Porter Moser and Sean Miller?

Watching the Xavier game last night, it did have me wondering if Sean Miller would make this a long term stop, or if he had aspirations to jump back to a blue blood. He does have ties to Xavier from earlier in his career, so that was one thing that had me thinking he may want to stay long term.

I think it's more of a redemption stop. Xavier with past history and lower expectations was a soft landing spot. I think he'd like to get back to a big school with big time NIL and have more go's at a Natty. Only issue is he's under contract through 2029 and just signed an extension in the fall. But the types of schools he might want to move to wouldn't have any issue with a huge buyout if they want him.

I couldn't think of another BE coach who might be looking to, and has the bonafides, to move on. Unless it's Matta but given his health issues and such I didn't think he'd have as much desire to do so.

Watched Creighton lose to Butler and Providence in last week.

Conclusion - They obviously are not savage defenders, have no bench and rely on starters to play mega minutes every night. On plus side everyone in top six rotation can shoot and McDermott runs an incredibly effective movement offense.

Regarding our chances at MSG, I much prefer playing them at CA sweat box w crowd all over them.

Secondly, I can’t imagine a Johnny team so dependent on one scoring guy matching their production. Butler and PC both beat CU recently w outstanding shooting & multiple scorers. I guess there is a slim chance we harass them w stifling D, but where has that been net of Nova games.?

Sorry, but just can’t see this offensively deficient team matching their offense nor defending effectively. I don’t think there will be much of an MSG crowd either to make a difference. Hope I am dead wrong on all counts, but I doubt we take this one.
I'm bringing 35 members of my country club.....none of whom are St. John's grads to this game. Pre-sales have been good and it will be a St. John’s crowd which is not the case with Nova and Uconn.
All we need is for Soriano to stop dragging his ass during the game and for our quick forwards to attack the basket rather than rely on 3 pointers.
We take this one by single digits.

Looking to Saturday's games.

2 games will help us, but only if we beat Marquette:

Creighton @ Xavier - Both are 7-5, the loser will have 6 losses
Providence @ Butler - Both are 6-6.

We still have a chance to be a top 5 team, just need some big wins.
