Around the Big East

Big win for Seton Hall at Marquette. I was expecting a slightly improved version of last year's Mamu. I have seen him play twice and to my surprise he is starting to play like Toni Kukoc. Can get to the rim with his dribble, and is an excellent passer when he feels the double team coming.

Willard just keeps getting it done. His teams play like junkyard dogs and he has players that want the ball in the closing minutes. and can score under pressure. I don't know what a New Jersey school has on us, but between the improvement of Rutgers and continued success of Seton Hall, I'm really confused why that can't can't happen here.

John Fanta on transfer to Butler declared academically ineligible:

Was told by multiple folks around Butler's program that East Tennessee State transfer Bo Hodges could be one of the Bulldogs' best players. He had been shining in practice. Averaged 12.7 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 2.5 APG last season. Tough news for the Dawgs, and surprising.

100% agree on Mamu. He was good and I expected him to be better, but he is just a monster this year. Have I mentioned that he was a 3 star recruit and is now a senior?

He was given the time to grow, both in weight and strength but also in maturity. He got to watch competitors like Delgado and Powell, and did so without having to be the man. Seems like our guys have to be the man when they are still relatively inexperienced. Shamorie during his freshman year, Champ this season. Posh even being pushed along maybe too quickly. Or at least the team has to depend on him a lot. In a perfect world, you play some, you sit some, you watch how the older guys do it, then you get your turn. After all, we are not Kentucky or Kansas filled with Mcdonald All Americans.

HALF - Butler 37, Indiana 32

The young and undermanned Bulldogs put together quite the first 20 minutes. Freshmen Myles Tate and JaKobe Coles have a combined 17 points on 6-of-6 from the field. Not sure if LaVall Jordan could have asked for a better opening frame.

SJU=GTown opened at 4.5, low enough to attract St. John's money. At home, revenge game, desperate for a win. With all this, the line moves the other way. There is money out there that thinks the team is too out of whack to have a clear cut win, even against a team projected to be at the bottom of the conference.

Bouknight of UConn is best player in BE and NBA bound. Killing it v Creighton today w 34 points in a close game. UConn has defended Creighton well.

It’s good McClung transferred to TT. He killed us every time we played them , if he wasn’t hurt . 3 Star player who really fooled the Rating gurus . Wonder what happened with McClung and Akingo with Ewing ?

Of course, Creighton is not hitting 3s as this game winds down. Amazing what tough, on the ball defense can do instead of SJU-like helter skelter defense. Game going to OT. Both teams in the 60s.

Yeah UCONN is going to regret not closing it out in regulation.

Uconn's end of game offense leaves a lot to be desired...and they have a dynamic player. Bad job Hurley!

UConn lacks a second scoring threat. RJ Cole was horrible today and not shy. Imo, he was main reason UConn lost.
