Around the Big East

Gary Parrish has something as a joke about McCarthy/Ewing on Twitter, too. I basically stole his tweet, and rearranged the words.

BTW, I have met Vecsey a few times, and he is actually an awesome guy. The total opposite side of his writing style.

Didn't he come to the Redmen.com body shot party oh so many years ago?

What's really hurting Georgetown is that not only do the Depaul's, St. John's and Butler's see them as a win, and play their hardest because of it, they don't even get good teams overlooking them anymore (UCONN might have been the last one). Because they've lost so many in a row, no one wants to be "that team" that ends the streak (even though someone will be eventually), and so they get everybody's best, night after night, just like they were a top 5 team nationally.
Ha! Ya know, that makes sense once you really think about it.

Teams "gunning" for you because they don't want to be the one to end the streak. Classic!

I'm just absolutely amazed that of all the 80s-90s NBA superstars who went back to coach at their alma mater, Chris Mullin is BY FAR the most successful.

From ESPN- cost of moving on from Ewing as it appears his contract is fully guaranteed (hopefully we are not in same boat). Potential candidates include Pitino & Cooley -

"Aside from his stature at the university, one of the problems is the money. After the shocking run through the Big East tournament in 2021 and advancing to the NCAA tournament, the school gave Ewing an extension. His contract is now reportedly fully guaranteed until 2026, meaning the school would owe him in the region of $15 million if it were to fire him. While Ewing earned more than $100 million in his playing career, he's unlikely to resign on his own and walk away from $15 million. So the two sides likely need to come to an agreement before a change is made."

Potential HC Candidates for Georgetown

Very thorough assessment

I’m going to wake up in a cold sweat every night for the next 2.5 months having nightmares about the possibility of Georgetown stealing Pitino from us.

Mike Brey could actually make some sense there. Feel like ND and Brey are at the point now where a change would be for the best for both sides (ND might even waive some or all of his buyout). For Georgetown Brey fits the bill of a guy that has achieved high major success at a similar highly academic Catholic University, a pitch I’m sure will go over well with many of their important alumni

It’s not stealing since Pitino is not ours and probably never will be

I don’t necessarily think that if Pitino had a choice between St. John’s and Georgetown that he would view Georgetown as a the better job as the blogger implies. Pitino is a NewYork guy, he’s coached here before, he knows what a rocking MSG is like, he has a lot of Wall St connections fund raising wise, the few core players and recruits that he can retain here to supplement the players that he will bring in exceeds what Georgetown currently has etc. Just my opinion.

If it turns out the Jesuits of Georgetown are willing to offer a contract to Pitino doesn’t that remove any objection the Catholic Church would have against his hiring or is it the power the SJU board would lose because of Pitino coming on board that would prevent his hiring.

Are the Jesuits still considered Catholic?

Brey, the son of Olympic swimmer Betty Brey,[9] graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland in 1977. As a two-year letter winner under coach Morgan Wootten, Brey helped the team to a 55–9 mark. He enrolled at Northwestern State University, where he played varsity basketball for three years (1977–1980). He played one season at George Washington in 1981–82 after sitting out the 1980–81 season as a transfer. He served as team captain and was named most valuable player with 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Colonials.[10] In 1982 Brey graduated from George Washington University with a bachelor's degree in physical education.
