Around the Big East

What is interesting to me about this poster's prognostication about St. John's (he is very in depth with mostly sound analysis for sure) is that he is focusing on the loss of Champ and where his production will come from. As after LJ and Heron left, Champ's role increased and he became a scorer and rebounder in his sophomore year that many of his could not have foreseen. Unlike that roster then, on this roster is an already proven BE scorer in David Jones; and surely Posh's production playing off the ball will likely increase too.

John Fanta very fair comment, “show me time for Johnnies”

“St. John’s has Posh Alexander and Joel Soriano to lead the way, and a fourth-year head coach in Mike Anderson who has yet to get the program to the NCAA Tournament. That is the expectation in Queens this year, though, and how DePaul transfer David Jones and Illinois transfer Andre Curbelo figure into things could determine what this team does. Will Anderson get everybody on the same page and produce the breakthrough in March? College hoops is better when the Johnnies have New York City buzzing, but now, it can’t just be talk. Winning has to occur.”

Villanova lost their scrimmage against Maryland by 6. I wouldn't put much into these scrimmages.
The Razorbacks lost their exhibition game to Texas on Sunday by 30 points so I hope you really can’t put too much into this exhibition games for sure because if so the hogs season is sunk and they are a preseason top 10 team.

42. The Posh Alexander/Andre Curbelo experiment at St. John’s will be all sorts of interesting.

Mike Anderson told me that the NCAA Tournament is the given expectation level for the Red Storm this year. How will the Illinois transfer, Curbelo, mesh with a junior All-Big East First Team preseason selection in Alexander? The other key for the Johnnies? Perimeter shooting. DePaul transfer David Jones may be the team’s best player. This is a pivotal year for Anderson, who has yet to reach the tournament in Queens.
