Around the Big East

this is a bit odd.

the nba dominates christmas day.

and depaul vs creighton...ehhh...not necessarily must see tv....

i guess creighton really the only BE school that is likely to sell out a stadium on xmas day....
The NBA doesn’t dominate Christmas anymore with the NFL putting games on that day now, will be a pretty massive lead in

These Big East schools are recruiting their tails off. The Johnnies are not the only team with depth. It's going to be a fight in the BE for sure this season and for the foreseeable future.

With the way Big East recruiting is going, it's going to take outstanding recruiting classes annually to even stay in the middle of the pack. This year's Johnnies class is one or two players away from being a great class or a mediocre one. Let's hope there is good news, in the way of quality player signings, on the horizon.

Even with the retirement of Jay Wright at Nova I think that with the new additions the overall quality of coaching in the BE is better this year than last. I also think there is no comparison to the coaching quality in the BE now as opposed to when CMA first signed on.

That said, this year will tell us more about where things are going with the Johnnies. Jones and Curbelo will both need to make an impact early and be in top form or close to it at the start of BE play. Win impressively this year against this BE roster of players and coaches and then the higher rated local kids will be more inclined to stay home and play for the Johnnies, IMO.

The recruiting negatives due to NIL disadvantages, lack of current Johnnies in the pros to point to, facilities, fan support and none of the rest matter. These obstacles are just part of the landscape. You gotta win. I think they can. We'll find out soon enough.

If Creighton/DePaul is a Christmas game it will start at 4:30PM and go head to head with Rams/Broncos game and NBA maych up of Lakers/Mavs followed by Celtics/Bucks. Good Luck; sounds like a desparate move by Fox. We'll be starting dinner at tip off.

I somehow misread that even though I looked at it twice. I thought Creighton-DePaul was before NFL, not after.

That's way worse. They will lose eyeballs after football and I suspect that like BrooklynRed, many will be sitting down to dinner around that time. I definitely will have a first course plate of pasta in front of me by that time. And honestly, I may be scrambling to catch one of the last showings of "A Christmas Story" instead of a game that doesn't involve St. John's.

I think an 11 a.m. slot would have been better, at least for East Coasters. You could throw the game on in the background while either finishing holiday prep or before you head out the door to relatives' houses.

And if I'm Creighton or DePaul, 10 a.m. start might even be better. You get your game in and don't really miss the family aspect of the holiday.

If St. Peters didn't go on that crazy run would he be there? He could be the next superstar but let him do it on this level first.
Exactly Fizzy, there have been many coaches who were great at a particular level but once they coached at a level up didn’t quite do as well. Miller at Indiana, Grant at Bama and in football, Frost at Nebraska come to mind. Let’s wait and see how he does before anointing him the next great BE coach.

Who here is anointing him? I think most people here want him to completely suck at least two games a year, and the only people who don't probably knew him as a high schooler.

Would he be at Seton Hall? Yes
Have some connected Hall fans who aren’t to sure about that. I still think he would have landed there regardless of the SPU run. But they tell me there was some fraying between the school and Holloway. Some of it concerned Holloway getting in trouble for tampering with a kid who transferred there from Cuse, or something like that.
