Around the Big East

Notre Dame's all about Notre Dame, period. If it would benefit them financially and prestige wise to join or leave a conference they'd do it in a heartbeat, not looking back or caring about how it affected the other members. They've shown that before.

Screw them and cuse and yukon too.
Agree but what school or for that matter who doesn’t make their own interest paramount?

This take is 100% correct. As I've been saying for years, the notion of what UConn brings to the BE has always been way overblown. If they were such a big draw for TV, the ACC or Big 10 would have gobbled them up years ago.

But wasn't it Fox who insisted on having them added as a stipulation to renewing the Big East contract?

If they aren't such a big draw for TV, then why would SNY cover their games all of these years?

Don’t know the accuracy but interesting.

His tweet is like "throwing __it against the wall and seeing it sticks". If it doesn't happen he can just say they just couldn't work out the logistics, but if it does, he can say, "see I had it and my sources were correct" and will take credit for it even if it is not announced until three years down the line.

I'm not sure that being on SNY - the second regional network in NY - is a great endorsement. SNY was a fallback for UConn because the league they were in (the AAC) couldn't get most of their games televised. While UConn was on SNY, St. John's was on FS1 nationally.

UConn brings very little to the table, which is why no Power 5 league has ever wanted them - and they've been begging for years. Only the Big East threw them a lifeline - which immediately put every other team in the league at a resource disadvantage vis a vis a big public school flush with taxpayer funds.

Any expansion of the Big East will be based upon the recommendations of the Conference’s media advisors with the full support and approval of FoxSports.

I get what you're saying and you make valid points. Although I will add SNY added UConn prior to the original Big East blowing up. The channel allows them to produce content and shows tailored made towards the teams, which I'm sure any St John's fan would find beneficial if we were in the same position. We get some of that content but I don't even believe it airs anywhere except online. SNY still has UConn shows even though they are back with the Big East.

I wouldn't say UConn brings nothing to the table for the Big East. Remember, they are considered the pro team of Connecticut, so you now get all of those eyeballs on the league. The really only other benefit is their tradition/history of a winning program.

Uconn's SNY contract was primarily for Women's Basketball team with other sports covered by the deal. That was their most valuable sport but women's basketball got minimal coverage.

Some sad news to report.
JP Pelzman, long-time Seton Hall and Big East writer for the Bergen Record, died this week. He also covered The Jets for many years.
Some of you may have known him. He was a real good guy, very humble and very funny. His Francesa impression would always have press row howling. RIP to one of the good ones.

It would be fantastic that we could make an event like this:

While not as publicized, every year there is a reunion starting with a memorial mass for basketball team members and support staff who have passed on since the last one was held, followed by a reception and if held just prior to the beginning of basketball season, attendance at basketball practice.
