Around the Big East

Well put, but if you think about it, it's not hard to figure out why there are such negative responses.

During Lavin's first year when he received commitments from Harrison, Harkless, Pointer, Sampson, Garrett, Greene, Pelle, and Lyndsey, comments such as:

"When does the money for the brown paper bags run out?"

were made by folks who were not St. John's supporters. It comes with the territory.

College basketball coaching is an extremely competitive profession and millions of dollars can be gained or lost though winning and losing. Everybody cheats one way or another because they know there’s no downside. If they don’t cheat they’ll lose and be out of a job. If they do cheat and win they might get another contract or two. Look at Will Wade. He was blatantly cheating and even though he got caught and got fired it still worked out for him because they can never take his $$$ he made in salary from an SEC school.

Every coach cheats. Some more than others. Some are better at hiding it than others.

And some get a pass like Bill Self and Roy Williams.

I don’t understand why when one of our Big East rivals scores on a good recruit there always people insinuate that there is some other reason rather than hard work and good recruiting. They did a good job and move on

Hard work and good recruiting? CMA is probably the hardest worker out there that you will find, is he landing top 50 kids? Even Villanova isn't all that frequently nor are any other Big East programs who've even had sustained levels of success.

This is just par for the course of this site. Being blindly over the top complimentary of our peers when something positive happens, while all the while being extremely negative and pessimistic of our own program no matter what. I remember how much praise Ewing got on here last year for the the solid job he was doing at Georgetown, despite nearly nothing factual to back it up. Now look, Womp womp.

Actually, I find the site to be just the opposite. Blindly negative when any other program gets a recruit and our staff does not. In fact this whole line of discussion was because of that sentiment. But its not just happening here, Im sure that jealous fans all over the country are posting..... "how much did St. John's have to pony up to get Curbelo?" But this behavior isn't new and not just on this site, it goes way back to when Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) signed with UCLA and many fans wondered how St. John's could have lost him....how much did he get paid by the Bruin organization? I guess no one stoped to think that in one of the biggest blunders in the history of Johnny basketball, the school made Lapchick retire due to age restrictions and Kareem went elsewhere. In terms of being negative towards our program, as I recall, prior to this season there was no negativity to be found.... and then?

Crazy to see Max Strus starting for the Heat in the playoffs. Was pretty good at DePaul but never considered one of the best in the Big East. Which just goes to show, when it comes to the NBA, it's not just about skills, but size, team fit, work ethic etc

Geez....for those counting on a down year for the BE, pay attention to some of these transfer acquisitions (including SJU).
