Around the Big East

Harkless and Wiggins were perfect examples of the old transfer rule.

Both were verbal commitments and neither had signed NLI. If they had they would have been ineligible to go to SJU (Harkless) or UCONN (Wiggins) if they were ever released.

I mentioned in my post both were verbals.

Well last year tested that theory at Georgetown because he did not have many good players.

But they will be vastly different this coming year.

Injuries and defections from previous years sabotaged last season (albeit the talent level wasn't that good).

As far as next year being vastly different, your right and they are still in the running for other good players.

Georgetown looking at a potential big weekend. 2 top 50 2023 recruits visiting and 2022 5 star recruit Tyrell Ward is expected to select them.

For a team that literally didn’t win a game this calendar year they sure are recruiting hard. Which leads me to two points I've made before:

1) No one will accuse Ewing of not putting in the work unlike a certain other legend who coached in the BE...Also Ewing understood how much pressure he is under and took action. He literally replaced his entire staff in the last 6 weeks and it is paying immediate dividends. Another major failure by this other coach. Just to give you an idea how Ewing operates. The weekend Brandon Murray was to visit Georgetown Sunday 4/10 Ewing still went to Orlando on that live weekend and flew back to DC late Saturday in time tomeet Murray and his family. Do you think our previous staff would have done that?

2) Georgetown name still has street cred. The name still means something even with their lack of success recently.

Now ultimately he still has to win. Hard work is nice but unless it translates into wins nobody us going to care.

That is why I never accused Coach Anderson or his staff of not working hard enough. Never, they run circles around last staff in that regard. But this is a results oriented business. And that is why this coming year is so important.

I agree on point one but I don’t think the name brand thing really means much anymore in this day and age.

Look at St. John’s during the Norm/Lavin transition. The St. John’s brand was in the toilet and as irrelevant as ever. Lavin was still able to get high value recruits to come.

Ewing is basically doing what Willard did once his seat at SHU was getting very very warm. Doing what ever it takes to win. Can’t blame him for it.

Georgetown is a better job than SJU. Again I bring up Goodie's poll from 2019 that listed the best jobs in the BE according to the coaches. SJU was 5th not bad. Georgetown was number 1. Ahead of Villanova who had won 2 NC's in 3 years.

In other words the BE coaches still thought that Georgetown was the BEST job in the BE even though they had not done much in recent years even at that point.

The 2019 Poll is probably a bit out of date but , it still reflects the Brand of G’Town . Especially in the DC , Maryland , Va areas . G’Town hasn’t suffered the 20 plus years stigma of lousy BB , save a few seasons , that we have . It’s that simple . And , bashing Mullin continually doesn’t mean anything , except the poster’s displeasure . And , based on top talent recruits , Ewing seems to still be able to attract that level of player , going back to Akingo, McClung , Mohammed , etc . Not being able to keep them is a different story and sooner or later , Winning a game will have to be Patrick’s mission . No one doubts the work ethic of CMA and staff but , until a 4-5 star player enrolls here , as a frosh , we will lag behind the talent of 1/2 the BE rivals and struggle to finish in the top 5 . Curbelo is a good get but , he’s had 1 very good year and 1 low mediocre year . We will see what he is in November and beyond . Playing Curbelo and Posh together might not be as good a fit as some think . This Board was licking their chops last year at the havoc that Posh and Mathis would reek on opponents , defensively . It rarely happened . While I’m sure they will play some together , Andre and Posh May pair with Wusu , Mathis and Pinzon on occasion too . Still waiting for the sharp shooting addition via the Portal , as the May deadline for filing approaches .

If I am a kid, why not give it a shot at least for a year to see if Nova can maintain its preeminence. With the current transfer ability, he can always go elsewhere later if it does not pan out. And, it is a darn good school to boot.

Agree that it's out of date also if it was taken before Mullin left as despite his inadequacy for the job he did raise the profile purely via his presence. EDIT: just checked and it was released in November of 2018 so STJ might have been overseeded.

Correct it was November 2018 not 19.

But really Georgetown had not done much in recent years up to that point anyway and Nova was coming off of 2 NC's in 3 years. And the coaches still ranked Georgetown above Nova. As THE BEST JOB in the conference.

I understand PC and SHU have won more in recent years no doubt that in itself will not make either of those jobs better than Georgetown. Ever. Not even close to Georgetown.

Georgetown will always be a premier job. Not just in the BE but in the nation. The Ewing-Zo-Mutombo trio and the AI connection. Plus it is a premier educational institution in the US.

They have a superb brand and recruits see that as an entry to the NBA.

That is correct and that is why in 2018 the conference coaches ranked it as the number 1 job even though not just Villanova but you could have listed a number of teams who over the last several years up to that point had more on court success than Georgetown.

Just ask yourself this, say Seton Hall or Providence was coming off an 0-19 conference season do you think they would be getting visits from the type of kids Georgetown is getting now? You can make the case they don't even when they have success but they sure as hell would not be getting 5 star kids visiting on an 0-20 season.

They did do a hell of a job maintaining relevance. Why didn't our brand grow more when we beat them during our FF year and were on top of the world for six weeks? The difference has been night and day.

Understand that they are great academically, but are all these kids they've landed over the years actually interested in that?
