Around the Big East 19/20
Remind me again why UCONN was re-admitted to the Big East..
I know its about money, but these Big East schools threw a lifeline to a mens program that was sinking.

Big News: In a @CBBONFOX interview with @TheAndyKatz today, Patrick Ewing says Mac McClung plans to return to Georgetown for his junior season.

Jamorko Pickett also returning.
So McClung hired a certified agent allowing him to gather feedback, maintain eligibility and now he returns.

Hmmmmm
Smart move all around.

Big Creighton news. The Bluejays just added a commit to their 2020 class - Georgian native Rati Andronikashvili, a 6-5 guard who is one of the top European prospects. @DraftExpress reported first. With Ty-Shon Alexander gone to the NBA Draft, CU bolsters their backcourt.

Looking forward to the announcers at Creighton vs. the Hall when this guy switches over to guard Mamu.:)

“Big pickup for Creighton as Andronikashvili – who will be graded as a four-star prospect when 247Sports ranks him nationally in the 2020 class – gives the Bluejays one of the top point guards entering college next season.
247Sports evaluated Andronikashvili playing for Georgia at the FIBA u18 Division B European Championships on Skopje, Macedonia, in 2018 and at the FIBA u18 Division B European Championships in Oradea, Romania, in 2019.

Andronikashvili also has experience playing with the u16 and u20 Georgia national teams and participated with the senior national team in the FIBA EuroBasket qualifiers in 2020.
What is Creighton getting in Andronikashvili?

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound point guard has very good size for the position to go with long arms. He has a slight frame and will need to get stronger but overcomes that with his size, skill and vision.“

Typical well coached Creighton type it seems. Nice late get for long term perhaps

Frank Anselem, the 6-foot-10, 220-pound center from Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep, is now down to five schools.
After Kentucky landed Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr this week, Anselem is now down to Arkansas, San Diego State, Seton Hall, Syracuse and Western Kentucky.

Val Ackerman notes that the Big East did have insurance for the conference tournament cancellation at Madison Square Garden. The pandemic is considered under the insurance umbrella.

Ben Steele

Big East commissioner Val Ackerman said in a Zoom media call that if there are no students on campus, there will be no athletic events.

Dave Borges

BE commish says sports won't be played if campuses aren't re-opened. Says those decisions will come in late-June, early-July. Also expects staggered starts.

John Fanta

Think about the locations of the 11 Big East schools. St. John’s and Seton Hall are in a totally different predicament than Creighton and Xavier. Staggered scheduling is a likely possibility, and it creates a complicated scenario. A lot of work to be done.

Val Ackerman gave the date of September 1, or around Labor Day, to come to a decision on the Big East Basketball season. That is typically around when the schedule comes out under normal circumstances.

Ackerman says it’s ‘certainly a possibility’ to run a sports season with fewer than 11 schools. NCAA minimum is 6. ‘You’ve got to be ready for anything here ‘

That last paragraph sounds pretty scary from an SJU perspective.

Seton Hall completes 20 class;

For the final addition to its 2020-21 roster, Seton Hall basketball needed a center.

The Pirates found one over the border — and under the radar.

Jeff Ngandu, a 6-foot-9 native of Congo who attends Canadian prep power Orangeville in Ontario, announced his commitment Friday, choosing the Pirates over Arizona State, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Kansas State, LSU, N.C. State, Oklahoma and West Virginia

Seton Hall, Uconn, Gtown and Providence are also in hot spots. Same goes for DePaul in Chicago.

Based on what some Hall fans told me, they are skeptical on this one and don’t really believe any of the above schools were truly recruiting this kid in any active manner. He is unranked and it’s “we hate Hurley” 101 over there because of Sanogo. Guess we’ll see if it made sense for them to take an incoming kid as a projection big instead of making a run at a grad transfer type still available.
