Around the Big East 19/20

Ewing must be feeling pressure now.

"It was a number of different events that made me feel I had no choice but to transfer from Georgetown," McClung told ESPN. "I really wanted to stay, but things throughout my career made me realize that I couldn't.

"I'm looking for a place I can call home. A place I can be a part of a family and help them succeed."

Ouch, pretty scathing. I can’t say I’m sad because I have no love for Georgetown and we are on the upswing and unfortunately Ewing is going the way of Mullin. Not good for them and a good Georgetown is good for the Big East. The longer they hang on the worse they are, but at this point I’m sure he’s gonna stick at least another season or so.
Definitely tough for Ewing to hear that but the quote down lower seemed pretty damning to me too...

Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing, appearing on a podcast with Andy Katz on May 5, said McClung would be returning to Georgetown for his junior year. Hazan said McClung never informed Ewing of such and was blindsided to see reports of him withdrawing from the NBA draft made public while he was in the midst of navigating the pre-draft process.

"The podcast with Andy Katz was not the deciding factor to my decision to transfer," McClung said. "I think it affected my pre-draft process, and seemed to confuse a lot of teams."

I really like Ewing but if true that is out of line. I don't think McClung would have gotten drafted no matter what but his coach announcing that he's returning to school while he's trying to schedule meetings and get feedback from pros would be confusing/misleading.

QueensBall, I agree that Ewing should not undercut (lack of a better word) his player like that. Although, from what I have read in the past many of the talent evaluators are happy to give honest feedback. I forget who it was but one of the scouts I read said that it benefits everyone involved including the NBA to give the feedback. Indicated that it can be brutally honest. Said too many “handlers” are puffing up kids and some of it is unrealistically so.

As far as I'm concerned there can't be enough bad news about gtown. Next let's get some bad news about yukon, and while we're at it, how about some bad juju for cuse as well.B) :(

We would all love higher but sixth in CMAs second season is realistic and would be great. Let’s just hope there is a season as we have a lot to look forward to as fans.

Jaden Daly's early BE picks (I like these better)

1. Nova
2. Creighton
3. Seton Hall
4. ST, JOHN'S
5. Yukon
6. Providence
7. Xavier
8. Marquette
9. Butler
10.DePaul
11.Georgetown

Call me crazy but highly doubt SHU is top 3-4. They are losing arguably the best player in their entire history scoring wise. The kid scored like 30 PPG. Good luck finding other guys to shoulder that load. If Willard can continue to be very good without Powell now I promise I will forever shut up about SHU being overrated. I think they are solid but not very good.

Last I checked we won the big east tournament in my book

we are the pandemic favorite
SJU is top 4 with our roster of LJ js back and Anderson as coach. Zero doubt.
I think top 3 and im being conservative. With saqiq bey and alexander gone, i think we have just as good a shot to win it all as nova or creighton does.

Nobody wants to play us. Thats a fact!

DOE - while I truly admire and applaud your optimism, ( and I don’t want to be Debbie Downer), I think that it’s premature to think that nobody wants to play us. Let’s win a game first. I’ve seen many a talent laden team that never gelled. I think that we will be ok, but on paper is different than on court.

Watch Jay Wright’s post game interview w/ rafferty after the 2nd nova game. He was blatantly relieved the game was over with. Look at creighton after the 2nd game and at halftime of the BET game.

This st johns team is a handful. They are unlike anything else in the big east.

Agree and we will likely be 5 more talented kids and even a bit more of a handful this year. Iron Mike is consistently good, if nothing else.
Been saying yrs now...Ewing not answer at coach. Longer they have him, longer they're irrelevant.
I don't know what's going on there, Ewing is actually a pretty good coach, he had key injuries and lost half his team, and still put a competitive team on the court.

Seems like his issues is him not recruiting the right kids that fit what he's trying to do. He's just grabbing the highest rated kids that he can, and it's not a fit. I've seen other coaches do this before, and it always backfires on them, they are going to have a high transfer percentage and never really have a stable program. That's one thing I've always liked about CMA, he doesn't care about rankings or how popular a kid is, he's going to go get kids that fit what he requires both on and off the court, that really matters when you're trying to build a program.

Grabbing kids that don’t fit.
I’ve never heard of that strategy before ............

Middle of BE is real progress & just as CMA fears no one, nor do his competitors. SJ is deservedly respected, not feared. Middle of pack means a Dance ticket. Better than that is gravy & certainly not impossible if wild card issues like injuries don’t arise. Just trying to be sensible. Step one is becoming a better road team.
