Around the Big East 19/20
A couple of points about recent topics in this thread...

Seton Hall is a good team, but they were probably overrated to start the season. They've lost to every good team they've played, but you have to give them credit for playing an excellent OOC schedule.
Actually, the games they've played and lost wasn't part of any direct scheduling from Seton Hall's end. Those were tournaments. The game against Maryland is a part of scheduling, per se'.

Any short term revenue is fool's gold. The fact that there were not massive financial penalties and buy-ins show this was an ego move for the head of the BEC. She may well be positioning for the head of the NCAA job.
I'm 36 and can see the argument for both sides. In fact this argument has been had on this board many times over the past decade. Totally get the hatred of UConn. What I prefer to focus on is how I don't see any downside to having them join the conference. We are perfectly insulated should they decide to bolt in a few years.
And a Yukon grad. I'm not rubbing that in your face but if you are going to start off as if you are unbiased that just ain't right. You say you see both sides but then say you don't see any downside so I don't get that either. The downsides are explained many times over profile match, current successes based upon that profile, mixed interests etc.. etc, reliving past mistakes. I don't need to rehash and I don't think Hurley or any other coach will be anywhere near as successful as Calhoun. He was brilliant if ruthless. Hurley isn't no matter how well he ends up recruiting. But the move to get yukon back was not made purely on the best interests of the schools nor was it the best deal that could have been made.

for me, i hate UConn sure, but all these conferences are trying everything they can to get MSG for their conference tourney. It is like the Maltese Falcon to these conferences and they need it so bad.

We have a deal to keep MSG as our post season site until 2028, but it is my understanding that there is an opt out clause for the Garden after 2022. Which is knocking on the doorstep believe it or not.

If UConn helps ensure we will not lose the Garden as our postseason site, I am all in

"The fact that there were not massive financial penalties and buy-ins"

Anyone know their exit fee to leave the new B.E. I tried googling it, it just gave their AAC exit fee (17mill).

Faust has the specifics of the deal made.

K, so it's not public

Hope it's more then the AAC exit fee, hopefully around 25mill.

Me, I'd make them prove that they want back in the B.E. really bad with a 50 million exit fee.
They really want back in right, so that means they won't entertain the thought of leaving.
If that's so then the 50mill exit fee is no biggie since they don't have any intention of leaving anyway.

If they said ok to that, that's the only way i'd trust them.

Nothing
Like it or not, it will strengthen the conference. As for UConn's tri-state recruiting, what makes you think we have to take the backseat to them any more? I have enough faith in the new staff that I look forward to -- rather than recoil from -- playing (and beating) them.

Should have been a huge entrance fee and a larger exit one. They have just shown they are willing to pay to get out of a situation if a better one is offered. Keep that in mind.

"Do they bring a great team? No. They have been mediocre or worse for the past five years.

Do they bring academic excellence? No."

1. Not right now. Think of UConn as an investment. They will be top 25 soon enough...why allow the AAC to benefit? I'd rather have them in our conference instead of watching them succeed from afar.

2. They're #64 in the country in academics. We are like #182. If they don't bring excellence then we are a community college. Sad but true.

Bottom line, UConn will do UConn and St. John's will do St. John's. I gave up on guys like Kofi, Curbelo, Briscoe, Diallo, etc. a long time ago. I gave up on the whole concept of getting the very best NYC area talent here. We all know what happened...kids don't stay in NYC anymore they move to different states for AAU and never want to be here. They all want to get away. The antidote is to recruit nationally and maybe some top recruits actually LIKE the idea of playing in NYC. UConn will help give the Big East leverage in keeping MSG, way more eyeballs, more hype, enhanced BET, enhanced strength of schedule, more games at MSG, more $, and a major rival for 2 games every year guaranteed to sell out MSG. I really doubt any F5 conference takes them, but even if they do who gives a rat's arse? If our worst case scenario is we go from a great conference to a really good conference then who cares? We don't need them, they just bolster us. How mad would people against UConn be if they became a top 15 team again in the AAC making deep runs in the tourney? They are a good investment we have the luxury of getting but absolutely do not need. If they leave, the worst thing that happens is they become Rutgers and we have a lot more money than we started with and still a great conference.

When I say I see both sides, I meant I see why people don't want them back, based on their hatred of the program and desire to see them fail, because they tried to escape to a higher conference. And also have been unethical in the past. I'm not sure what any of that has to do with now. Quite frankly, me being a UConn alum doesn't mean much of anything to this matter. I hate the basketball program more than most of you. I had to sit and watch on campus celebrations from the obnoxious fans when they won the title in 04.
I think Dayton would have given the conference most of the positives UConn brings, but few of the negatives.
If and when the BE goes to twelve, I'm all for Dayton being that team -- provided Xavier wouldn't try to quash it. It has a long, solid basketball history, and has consistently put some pretty good teams on the court in recent years. Plus it fits into the current geographical confines of the conference (which may prove to be a problem for Xavier).

Just watching Penn State/Maryland at the half of SJU/Brown. Bob Wischusen, the announcer for ESPN just said that Yukon is trying to use Hurley and the Hoops program and getting it back to pre AAC levels to help “lift” the football program. His thinking was then when the ACC or Big 12 looks to expand Yukon would look to move to a bigger conference.

Therefore, as expected by many here their re entry to the BE will probably not be long term. Once again the BE will be used as a steppingstone. Val Ackerman and the rest of the ADs making a deal with the devil will look like the saps that they are.

When UCONN was great in the old BE, did that elevate their fb program, and what conference is their fb team in next year?

The football will play Independent next season. Which means they will be DESPERATE to find a home. There is but a handful of them in football. Notre Dame is the big one and that is very unique.

Hey I’m only telling you what I heard. You might want to turn on ESPN right now as they are playing Indiana as part of the Jimmy V Classic. Holly Rowe telling us how Yukon “feels right at home at MSG. New York “loves” Yukon. Hurley telling recruits they will play at “MSG” and it’s great for recruiting.
Butler hanging in there with Baylor.
Getting destroyed on the glass but they are a very good team regardless of todays result.

I’m sorry, but I can’t stand UCONN and I’m happy to see them back. Their past deceit makes for a great story and really doesn’t effect us. They are a hated rival, and are a pure, east coast basketball school. UCONN willl make this league a lot better and it’s already good. We need rivals, crowds, incoming money etc. UConn has zero future in college football as they basically just castrated the program. I hate UConn with a passion and yet I’m thrilled to have them back. Our rivalries are what make us. We need a natural rival back in the league.
