Around the Big East 19/20

Not quite. 18 point deficit cut to 4. In only 7 minutes of play.

4 minutes left. DePaul up by 10. I’ve now seen about 2 1/2 of their games this year. This isn’t a bottom of the Big East team. They are big, athletic and play defense.

DePaul playing really well in this 2nd half. Paul Reed looks great. Leitao may have finally found the straw that stirs the drink in Charlie Moore. High-level pg. They don't really have a bench but a good starting 5. Going to be a tough game for us this season.

DePaul has always been a tough game for us. Even when they stink and we are good. They always beat us at least once

Butler edged Stanford last night. Kamar Baldwin is such a tough guard, scored 17 of their final 20 points

Seton Hall loses to Oregon, after blowing a 19 point second half lead. Powell being helped off the court. Looks like he re-injured his ankle on the last shot.

The Pirates don't have many weaknesses, but 2 stood out:

1. Lack of anyone stepping up when Powell went cold

and:

2. Pressure defense seemed to bother them

#2 could bold well for us, potentially, in our matchups with them, this year.

Tough loss for Hall v. Oregon...should have had it.

Even worse, both Powell and McKnight helped off court at game end w/ injuries.

Definitely just a cramp for Powell. He’ll be fine.

But what a nightmare. There’s some big seton hall fans out there who’s thanksgiving was just ruined with a loss that painful

I root for SH but they have trouble closing these games out. They have a nice roster and Powell is great. But, the dropoff is big after him when it comes to crunch time.[/quote]

The hall has Powell, some good bigs but a lot of guys who can’t score the ball well. Offense gets stagnant because there’s nobody else to take the shot. It’s too bad because Willard should have been able to reel in at least one more scorer because they’re a good team overall.

Thursday, November 28th:

2:00 PM - Providence (92.5%) vs. Long Beach St., from Anaheim, CA - ESPNU
6:00 PM - Davidson vs. Marquette (53.1%), from Walt Disney World - ESPNU
9:00 PM - Seton Hall (TBA, but expect them to be heavily favored) vs. Southern Miss., from The Bahamas - ESPN2
10:30 PM - San Diego St. vs. Creighton (45.1%), from Las Vegas, NV - FS1

Powell took over 40% of their shots and their end game “strategy” seems to be to let Powell, as their best player, fire any shot. Modern basketball, Mullin did it with Ponds. That approach leads to some applauded spectacular individual finishes and some head scratching “huh’s?”

They are actually better playing from behind than with a lead. Guys who hit shots early on in game don’t hit them when pressure is on - outside of Powell.

Killer for them was Nelson - who twice got caught in corner on inbounds pass.
