Non revenue producing sports are going to feel the pinch
Will also cause a problem with respect to Title IX requirements[/quote]

Really going to see what donors actually give a real shit about their alma mater or favorite school or who is just there for shits and giggles of the big time sports.

News: I'm told UConn is cutting men's swimming. Other sports likely. School set to announce cuts tomorrow.

This is quite interesting. It seems to be impact of fewer incoming freshman. What I would like to know is if they are going somewhere else or are they opting for a GAP year like kids overseas (primarily England). If they are opting for a Gap year because of the uncertainty of real versus virtual classes and thus deferring start for a year, this might be a positive as they will start college a year later and be more mature after a year in the "real world". Who knows, it could become a year of national service prior to college. Could be a win win in the long run.

1. Much less foreign students coming to North America, especially the Chinese students. This financial loss will be devastating as they pay much higher fees.
2. They are not taking a gap year as you can’t travel and there is a shortage of jobs.
3. Many more students will stay home and go to local 4 year schools , community colleges and jucos. No sense in going out of town and spending a fortune when you are having on line classes, no sports , very little social interaction. No need to pay for a benefit you will not obtain.
Those are the reasons.

I also believe that many colleges are giving false hope by announcing that they are opening their campuses to students in the fall to not lose tuition money and to dissuade transfers. They know darn well that it will not "business as usual" this year but need to imply that it will be in order to stabilize their enrollment.

It's all a PR game and a game of survival for colleges and universities right now

#3 is the big one. Not many people are going to want to pay private school $ just to take online classes.

Don't discredit the value of #1 as the foreign students typically pay full freight. Big hit to incoming revenues.

Chinese students come to study for the benefit of the Chinese Communist Party. Glad to see colleges forced into adjusting.

Per Rothstein:

UConn has officially cut men's cross country, women's rowing, men's swimming and diving and men's tennis per release. Another effect of coronavirus.

If this stuff is happening at the major college level, I can only imagine the fallout we will see at smaller schools that don't have any revenue producing sports

They can probably put most of them on football scholarship. They wouldn't be much worse than what they have already.

Very sobering...we have to do much better. No excuse not to at least be in middle.

I mean, I can think of some pretty easy and valid excuses for that.

Nova obviously a better program. X, CU and Butler in the last 10 years have seasons in their mid major conferences where they stacked up on extra wins.

Programs like seton hall and providence are ahead of us because they actually have some continuity and stability at the head coaching position and don’t have to rebuild every couple years under a new regime.

Same could be said for Marquette even though I’m not a big Woj guy personally. But they had some good Buzz years in their last 10 anyway.

Our inability to make a really solid hire over the last 20 years hurts. I like Mike A though so we have that going for us.

If they included UConn, they would be 5th at 214 wins, with the three oldest seasons in the Big East.

One of the big reasons Seton Hall finally broke through last year was because A) they had a guy who could get you practically 22 PPG with plenty of 30+, showed up for big moments, and stayed on the court. And also B ) they had REAL big men who were 7 footers. Hard to win consistently with no true bigs at this level.

They also had a veteran team. It's nice to have big name young pups but there's something to be said for experience and having guys that have played together for a good amount of time
