Around the Big East 18/19
I remember watching X earlier this season and they literally turned the ball over in like 5 or 6 straight possessions in the final 8 minutes. They looked horrid. No team took a bigger step back...not even close. Let's hope losing Mack didn't bury them. I know they're still rebuilding. The frustrating thing about realignment is that now our coaches get poached after they have a good run with a Big East teams. Some exceptions, but that's the rule now. In old Big East you had legendary coaches staying for big stretches.
Xavier has help on the way. I believe next year they have four 4 star and a 3 star coming in as freshmen .
With Vill and Marq continuing to roll and the balance of teams three to ten, this makes any type of winning streak unlikely. It looks like other than the top two nobody will be over 500. This would be very unusual but would reflect the league balance and make a very interesting end of season tournament.
I take a different tack. Seems to me we’ve played below our potential most of the Conference Season. Tough competition highlights a team’s weaknesses and what it needs to work on.
We’re halfway through the Conference schedule and are 4-5.
Why can’t we go at least 6-3 the rest of the way?
We are sufficiently talented to achieve that and play 5 of our last 9 ‘home’.
I can dream about beating Marquette away, but don’t see why we can’t upset Nova home, beat Providence and Butler and the hated Hall home, and maybe beat DePaul away and Xavier home and away.
That’s 7-2.
Our team is very good if they play to their potential.
I’m an optimist.

12 noon - Seton Hall at Butler - FS1
2:30 pm - Providence at Depaul - FS1
Rooting for both home teams to win.

They were down 17 with about 5 minutes to go, and came back to tie, but Butler won it with a late goaltend.

Good!

DePaul leading providence 31-23 with about 2 minutes left in the first half. Butler did their part for us, now DePaul has to do their's.

Yep. I feel your pain.

Depaul about to put Providence away. Up by 9 with 1:25 to go.

If this score holds, we will be in sole possession of 4th place in the leauge.

Yes. Some controversy at the end of this game, but DePaul held on.

Even without that, Providence would have needed a miracle.

Going to need to see which of these last 8 teams have the lighter or tougher overall schedules for rest of the season.

Waste of time. Bottom 8 too evenly matched to be predicting how they will do.

Well, after Tuesday, we'll have 5 of our final 8 games at home, and only 1 left with the Villanova/Marquette dynamic duo.

I would guess that gives us one of the "easier" ones.

STJ has 2x Providence and X plus home games against Butler and the Hall and a road game at Depaul. Only at Marquette and v Nova in the tougher than most category. Still well positioned to finished 3rd if they take care of biz.

Super Bowl Sunday, February 3rd:

12 noon - Georgetown at Villanova - FS1
1:00 PM - Xavier at Creighton - YES (tape delayed broadcast at 4 pm)

There are no games on Monday (as I noted last week), and SJU-Marquette is the only contest on Tuesday, so there won't be another list of games until Wednesday.
