I don't think this team has their ceiling, but I do think we will have a similar trajectory.
That was a stacked BE that year, arguably the best conference ever assembled (got 11 teams in NCAA's). Even with a 9-9 record UCONN was firmly in the NCAA's because of their 12-0 non-conference record that included winning the Maui Classic in which they beat Wichita St, Michigan St and Kentucky in order. Then beat Texas in Texas.
Lastly they won 5 straight in the stacked BE Tournament including beating 4 straight NCAA teams Georgetown, Pitt, Syracuse and Louisville. A 6, 1, 3 and 4 NCAA seeds in order.
Then UCONN got a 3 seed. SJU does not have close to the amount of quality wins. They are not even close to being projected to be a 3 seed. Do you really think UCONN makes that run as a 10 seed? Seriously?
This is complete nonsense. They are not even close to being analogous. I don't think you believe any of this. This along with the Jay Wright analogy.
You live in a constant state of hyperbole. Most stacked Big East ever? They got two teams into the Sweet 16 and had a horrendous first weekend. The only reason they got 11 bids is because of how awful the bottom 5 teams of the league were...DePaul was 1-17, USF was 3-15, Providemce was 4-14, etc. The top and middle beat up on them instead of the league cannibalizing itself with no weak teams like this year. Uconn played six conference games against teams that won between 1-6 Big East games.
That Uconn team had a higher ceiling as I said, you can even argue a much higher ceiling without a complaint from me. But they went undefeated in the OOC and struggled to a 9-9 conference record with a 17-point loss to us that wasnt even that close. They made a ridiculous charge when they hit stride due to Kemba going nuts. Ponds is the most like Kemba this league has seen since. Don't call the season just yet.
