Around the Big East 18/19
Uconn won a national championship after finishing in a tie for 9th place in the Big East at 9-9 in 2011.

I don't think this team has their ceiling, but I do think we will have a similar trajectory.
Comparing the BE circa 2011 to this year's version is like comparing the Masters to the John Deere.

One thing the BE does have going for it . . . the Pac 12 is abominable, likely a 2-3 bid conference max. I know RPI doesn't mean anything anymore but the BE is 5thin conference RPI this year. Can't remember being out of the top 2 in recent memory. Pac 12 7th.

I've got no clue what to expect tonight, but both Marquette and Providence seem to have turned it around which goes to show that the season has uneven turns to it and, hopefully, we'll do the same.
Let's go Johnnies.

Marquette is putting together the type of season I thought SJU could have. They are not only having a good season they are getting better each game.

Marq is in the top 10 and is 19-3 so don't know that they had anything to turn around but your point is well taken.

Thursday, January 31st:

8:00 PM - Xavier at Georgetown - CBS SN

If the Hoyas win, they move into sole possession of third place in the Big East, at 4-4. BPI likes them to do it, too. 65.8%. If Xavier wins, they tie us and Seton Hall for third.

No games tomorrow, obviously (in fact, there are no more Friday or Monday Big East games, for the rest of the regular season).

Brutal fights every game in the Big East. Seton Hall is annoying because they had a great OOC performance, but then they lose a bunch and once their stock is low again they beat another team with stock rising (PC). Just as a team starts to get traction, a worse team beats them. Brutal. In the old Big East there were a number of teams at the bottom that could be feasted on. In this version, there's no break any game and it's basically a coin toss each game. It would be so amazing if we stole one from Duke overlooking us then Marquette if we can shut down Howard again. That would give us wins over #16, #2, #10 with a chance to beat Nova at home who may be top 10 by then. Would be nuts, but obviously odds are slim. We can beat Duke if we get them to start chucking and have another 9% day like they did against Georgia Tech. If they get Zion in the paint whenever they want without tenacious D, we will be in big trouble.

If I'm Mullin, I'm reminding the team that Duke is not invincible no matter how many times ESPN shows Zion dunking. They were within a breath of losing to Texas Tech, they got everything they could handle from GT, and they lost to a meh Cuse team. We beat them last year and we are the last nonconference team to beat them at their place. We killed them in 2011 and we lost by like 5 or 7 for Coach K's 1,000th win. Had them on the ropes. Can't get wrapped up in the Duke aura, and just go out there and play the best you can.

Xavier seems to be getting respect this year based on their past seasons, as G'town is only -3, at home.

I was going to post this yesterday but hate posting on the phone. Providence has beaten Hall and DePaul at the Dunk and X on the road. That's not exactly turning it on in my book.

Georgetown used a big second half (52 pts) to pull out the win. McClug came back to earth scoring 11 pts on 4/12 shooting (0/3 on 3pters).

Xavier fell apart during the last 2 1/2 minutes of the game. They played solid D for 3 consecutive possessions, but looked terrible offensively with the turnovers. It was only a one possession game during those possessions (the Hoyas was up by 3).

With Vill and Marq continuing to roll and the balance of teams three to ten, this makes any type of winning streak unlikely. It looks like other than the top two nobody will be over 500. This would be very unusual but would reflect the league balance and make a very interesting end of season tournament.

I remember watching X earlier this season and they literally turned the ball over in like 5 or 6 straight possessions in the final 8 minutes. They looked horrid. No team took a bigger step back...not even close. Let's hope losing Mack didn't bury them. I know they're still rebuilding. The frustrating thing about realignment is that now our coaches get poached after they have a good run with a Big East teams. Some exceptions, but that's the rule now. In old Big East you had legendary coaches staying for big stretches.

Xavier needs a Point Guard. Quentin Gooden is just not that good. He turns the ball over in key situations and is not a good three point shooter either. He got lucky last night as he banked in two threes in row but they were bad shots. Just got lucky to bank them in. I don't believe their best player Naji Marshall is a good three point shooter either. Hankins and Tyrique Jones might give us problems underneath but if we can hit our threes, Keita continues to improve and force them into some turnovers which they are prone to we could possibly sweep them. They are our best chance at a sweep left in my opinion.

Do you remember which game? Looks like we need to fact check your posts after yesterday’s Tacko Fall comment. Just kidding.
