Around the Big East 18/19

Syracuse loses to ODU at home and stays right where they are. It’s almost like a lot of media members are Syracuse grads.
OR from upstate New York. Buffalo had one significant win over a now 4 loss West Virginia. They have a great coach and it seems coaching cred is a factor. We are the Rodney Dangerfields of college basketball.
At time WV was a nice win but the rest of their schedule is actually worse than ours.

Here's what you need to know Jack - some here will make it seem like Villanova has been the Duke of the East but their dominant success is rather recent against St. John's. You need to look no further than the moronic hiring decisions since the great Lou Carnessecca retired. Mahoney could recruit but couldn't coach. Fraschilla saw the job merely as a stepping stone. Norm Roberts couldn't bring in the players nor coach. We hired an ESPN celebrity after not having coached for 6 years. We hire an NBA Hall of Fame player that never coached girls CYO.
Now look at the Villanova coaching tree.
BTW, here is the Villanova record since 1950 against St. John's. It has only been in the last 10 years that Villanova has caught up to St. John's. As they say, the record doesn't lie.

St. John's (NY) 95 games 49 (V) 46(SJ) .516
Exactly, It's those whippersnappers whose first memory seems to be when Nova won the natty in 1985. Back when the ball didn't bounce and the kids didn't jump and the arena was filled with smoke St Johns OWNED Nova.
Yeah, this microwave generation who weren't born in 85 or noticed we were ranked #1 in that era and went to the Final Four.
The bottom line is we only fell behind Villanova recently or in Jack's perspective, since the time he got pubes. Others will argue we fell behind only in the past 15 years with the questionable hires of Roberts, Lavin and Mullin. We created our instability by firing 5 consecutive coaches since Carnesecca retired. One would think we would have learned after the 2nd firing.
Agree or disagree all you want but the only factor that I see is hiring and coaching instability. In the past half CENTURY Villanova has had only FOUR coaches - Jack Kraft, Rollie Massimino, Steve Lappas and for the past 17 years Jay Wright.
We have had SIX since Carnesecca retired.

You're right. Even with WV our schedule has been slightly better IMO. WV is 6-4 now. Buffalo is still deserving of their ranking, though. They jump way ahead of us temporarily with their next two games.

Am I missing something?
Last week they were #25, this week they aren't in the Top25 nor in the voting section.
Unless you're talking NET RPI, OR something else.

FYI RealtimeRPI has Buffalo SOS at 63 and us at 240. So it's not even close.

But the Furminator at 333. I call bs on that one.

What are you calling BS on? These are quantifiable metrics. Furman has played 4 teams with an RPI over 300.

Very overrated

I don't see a reason we should be rated at this point in the season. Schedule being what it is. I just hope we work the kinks out and do some damage when conference play begins.
I don't feel like reading through all the arguing above to see if this was posted yet, but Jahvon Quinerly didn't play at all on this game according to the box score. I don't know if this was pre-planned as punishment for the tweet or not.

As for the tweet itself, I don't think it was bad at all. The apology seemed over-the-top. It basically amounted to a compliment of a local team that just won.
Quinerly only played 1 minute in the previous game and IIRC that was only because someone fouled out. He now has four DNPs, all in close games.

A whopping six Big East games, on this Tuesday.

6:30 PM - Appalachian St. at Georgetown - FS1
7:00 PM - Albany at Providence - YES (tape delayed broadcast at 2 AM)
7:00 PM - Xavier at Missouri - ESPNU
8:30 PM - Presbyterian at Butler - FS1
9:00 PM - Creighton at Oklahoma - ESPNU
9:00 PM - North Dakota at Marquette - YES (tape delayed broadcast at 4 AM)

With the Providence and Marquette games being televised at 2 and 4am respectively looks like I"ll be pulling an all nighter. :eek:hmy:

Without Keita we won't do much damage. He needs to be 100% healthy.
As for the rankings I think pollsters look not only at the opponents but the quality of the win.
There are 4 wins where we won by 4 points or less. Against much lower ranked opponents that is not a good visual.
We are 10-0 but could just as easily been 6-4.
BTW, Duke, who is not undefeated, is up 48 points against Princeton. We were only up by 3 points at the end of the first half.

So far the Big East has performed like a mid-major conference. Not a good thing.

This season I’m only worried about us. Can’t let the league prop us up. It’s the way it is. We have plenty of talent. We need to eventually put it all together. I’m hoping we see it soon enough because the talent is there.

Lol definitely not like a mid major. We are 4th in NET (only slightly behind the ACC).

The top has been bad, and overall it is definitely a down year. Does it really matter, though? We did excellent OOC last year and got hammered during Big East play. Let's be top of the league for once. It's a great year for the league to be down IMO.

Two other games in the league tonight.

6:30 PM - Sacred Heart at Seton Hall - FS2
8:30 PM - Incarnate Word at Depaul - FS2
