Funny cause I can count on one hand how many good looks nova even got this half.
____________

I could ask how many fingers and hands you have on which to count but if you believe that Villanova's offense throughout this and other games resembles StJohn's then there is not much I can say.
I’m not saying they resemble each other at all I just don’t think this game exemplifies the point you are trying to make.

Nova shot 8-28 from 3. They had few to no ideas on the offensive end in the 2nd half.

But yea nova is definitely better coached team, no doubt. Jay Wright’s been doing this for like 20 years. They should be. Didn’t stop us from beating them in philly last year and it won’t stop us from beating them this year. And that’s all I care about
Guess it had nothing to do with playing against the number one team in the nation. Same as playing against Mount St. Joan's or M St. Mary's or whoever.
Kansas is #1 but also missing a star, Azubukie. They should’ve lost to Stanford at home a week or two ago but Stanford choked, and they beat New Mexico St in Kansas City by a whopping 3 points.

Also, this isn’t the only nova game I’ve watched this year. They’ve lost to Furman and Penn. beat an 0-8 La Salle team by 7. So no, them playing Kansas is not the sole reason they didn’t look great on offense, it’s been all year
They also average 29 3’s a game so they basically took their average today, which, by the way, is 5 more attempts a game than we do. But the real point is most teams play strategically the same way, keep the floor spread to create lanes to drive and shoot 3’s. We play that way with a lot less discipline than most teams though.
That's a very good point which is kind of why it can look ugly especially when we aren't sharing the sugar as much ( Lavin quote for you. lol )
However, as long as you spoke of sugar, we average more assists per game than Nova and have a better assist to turnover ratio 1.4 to 1.1. Now SOS plays into that a bit for sure, but still interesting to a degree. Now after all is said and done, I am a far way from thinking any comparison between us and Nova has much validity. They are down talent wise this year, we are up but we have yet to prove ourselves. Down or not they just played the #1 team in the country to the wire at their place. Apples and oranges for sure.
Butler playing well against #25 Indiana.

Up by 4 at the half 38-34
They look solid. I like their roster - good balance with skilled bigs, some guards who can create their own shot and some shooters. They are going to be tough this year. Thought Seton Hall looked meh today - if you can figure out how to keep Powell in check, not sure who else scores on that team when needed. Georgetown stinks. And I have no idea what Villanova is at this point, certainly hung tough today at Kansas, they'll probably figure it out.

Agree that Nova is a big question mark at this point . I really think they are not deep enough and are very inconsistent .

Nova is one guy short thats the issue with them this year. Booth and Paschall are good but they needed one more guy on their level. They needed one of DiVincenzo or Spellman to come back to be a top 10 team. If they both returned they would likely be fighting for #1 in the rankings. Gillespie is good but he looks like he is a year away from being that type of guy. They do have a bright future though, their young guys are talented. It goes to show you the strength of their program that this is what a rebuilding year looks like for them.

And we have abbondanza? We are short a key player every year. Last year a guard and this year anyone resembling a tall and talented player.

Your point is?

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that not every critique of another team is necessarily a comparison of them to St. John’s.
Georgetown loses at home to SMU, 81-73
Bad loss
Not a bad loss, a horrendous loss. SMU is a poor team ranked well over 200 in RPI. Our board would be in meltdown mode if we lost this game. Ewing still has a long way to go.

Thank you simplyred. A reminder this thread is called “Around the Big East”. We are discussing other teams in this conference. Not everything said about other teams has to be compared to our team

Fair enough, however I am not sure you can blame it all on Ewing. He has 2 very seasoned and experienced assistant coaches by his side in Louis Orr and ROBERT Kirby. While Ewing may be new to the head coaching game he is surrounded by very good assistants. Had Mullin hired Orr instead of Slice I would have been very happy.

Ewing, to his credit, spent time as an assistant for years learning the game from a coaching perspective in the NBA. I'm pretty sure he and Georgetown fans won't find a loss like this acceptable.

Yes, I believe he spent about 15 years as an assistant coach in the NBA.

G’Town starts 2 Freshman , I believe . Akinjo and McClung . 2 Smallish Guards, who Ewing recruited . They will develop .. The Hoyas need to get Govan the ball more . Hopefully , they don’t until after we play them .

One Big East game prior to ours today.

2:00 PM - Central Connecticut at Providence - FS1

No Big East games on Monday.
We're not Nova now, nor should anyone expect us to be; just crazy imho.
The point that the conoscenti here seem to have missed in my comment about Villanova is that except for one freaking position on the front line is that we ARE as good as Villanova NOW. I wouldn't even be surprised if we sweep them if Keita is 100 % and makes a difference.
Now, when you say "nor should anyone expect us to be; just crazy", that in itself is crazy. We, me, the local fans, the donors and I'm pretty sure Mully expect St. John's, in the basketball sense, to be as good as Villanova. If going into year 5 some of you persist with a second class mentality with regards to St. John's basketball everyone should just change their screen names to No Hope 1, No Hope 2, No Hope 3, etc.
