Around the Big East 18/19
Big East was third in RPI heading into today (ACC #4) , and with Nova's win that should improve even if Hall loses.
I think the problem for the BE will be that by current RPI (and probably equates to NET) standards, almost all of the BE teams are around the bubble or outside it. But because the teams are so equal and no teams that will jack up RPI for the others, few teams are likely escape conference play with a dominant W/L record. So if it plays out that way mediocre RPI/NET likely means only a few invites for BE teams. It would be good for the conference for at least 2 other teams to get into the top 15-25 RPI but not sure how many signature wins are even available for Big East other than Duke for SJU.

FWIW BPI has the Big East teams :

[li]15 Villanova [/li]
[li]20 Marquette[/li]
[li]29 Butler [/li]
[li]39 St. John's [/li]
[li]48 Creighton [/li]
[li]63 Seton Hall [/li]
[li]67 Providence [/li]
[li]75 Georgetown [/li]
[li]82 DePaul [/li]
[li]100 Xavier[/li]

Definitely a fair concern. We don't appear to have a Nova/X this year to dominate OOC play. Then again, we may not have.a super weak Georgetown OOC or DePaul performance to drag down the averages.

Personally, this year I'm not too concerned with how many BE teams make the Tournament. I just want SJU to, and currently SJU is actually #10 in RPI. December's schedule is super weak, but based on current BE results, we'll be perfectly fine as long as we keep winning.

I still don't like the OOC schedule, but I think the Big East will be strong enough for it not to matter. This looks like an average power conference, just without as many signature win opportunities as last year.

Still very early so take FWIW.

I've been as critical as anyone regarding the schedule, and I'm a couple last second VCU/Cal/BG shots away from hating it, but as of now we're fine. Big East will be fine if it can repeat these performances we've seen over the last couple of weeks. Still a down year, but not enough of a down year to hurt teams that perform well during conference.

Big East is obviously very competitive and imo a four team league re NCAA bids. The margin of error is thus thin for just about every team. This is why I will approach every game as incredibly important. Hold serve at home and steal some road games seems winning formula.
Fun season, but nerve racking as far as NCAA T bid goes.

Absolutely true that we, and the rest of the Big East, will have very little room for error this year. Every game needs to be approached with a sense of urgency, and I'd assume the staff frames them that way.

As a fan, I feel less stressed now than I did a couple weeks ago. BE as a whole seems to be doing fine and should be a 4-5 bid league, with probably a team or two on the wrong side of the bubble. SJU has been incredibly stressful to watch, but they haven't lost so all is good for now. Already nearing the halfway point in our OOC schedule, and December is significantly easier than November.

Frankly as many here have said previously, if we can't finish in top 4 of BE with the talent we have we don't deserve an NCAA bid. No excuses this year and so far so good.

Seton Hall wins a very solid win for the big east capping off a very nice comeback week

RealtimeRPI has the Big East as #3 in RPI, behind the Big 10 and Big 12. That's pretty much in line with where we've been the past few years since the breakaway.

Yes. That Gavitt Games performance is looking more and more like a testament to the Big 10, then an indictment on the Big East.

Shamorie Ponds (@ShamorieP) has been named @BIGEASTMBB Player of the Week! Junior guard averaged 33.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds to help #SJUBB capture the 2018 @LegendsBBall title

While the Big East is clearly weaker at the top, this is the strongest I can remember it middle down. There are just no gimmees. Hopeful the conference doesn't cannibalize itself.

There aren't a lot of accolades handed out to the conference with the strongest bottom.

Met Jamal Branch through a friend of mine at the gym I am a member of. Seems like a real nice friendly young man. What I liked most about him is that he told me he is an Alabama fan in college football. :cheer: B) My friend tells me Chudney Gray is also a member of the gym and he will introduce me to him the next time the 3 of us are all at the gym at the same time. Chudney was a favorite of a friend of mine who passed away a few years ago, he used to call his layup attempts his lightbulb move because of the way he seemed to twist his wrist on his release.

I thought Jamal was playing ball overseas; is he back in the states no longer playing professionally? Always liked him as a good team player.

Sorry NCj didn't discuss his current situation. Will have to ask my friend next time I see him.
