Around the Big East 18/19

I think they could possibly crack the top 25 if they win the two this week and definately if they are 7-0 after next week.

Important to get ranked quickly and create buzz. Need to bring in elite recruits who can hit the ground running next year because Ponds and Heron are almost certainly gone.

100%...I know many say "Who cares about rankings?" but the truth is it matters if you want real national hype, recognition, and attention from top recruits. Seeing as how weak the Big East is, we may even be able to stay in and out of the rankings all season if we play to our potential. One game at a time.

[quote="MarkRedman" post=302944]Jerry Carino (Asbury Park Press) is my new favorite sports writer
He has St John's at #24 in his Top 25 this week
The bad news is that we are the only Big East team in his list
He dropped Nova, Syracuse and Marquette from his Top 25 this week
Thanks for the love for the Johnnies, Jerry!!

syracuse is no longer in the BE. Screw 'em and yukon.

Have to love Jon Nyatawa of Omaha - he has us #20!

Max Strus of DePaul is named the @BIGEAST Player of the Week.

Heron on honor roll

Impressive that the ACC has 3 teams (usual suspects) in the Top 7 and a total of 6 teams in the Top 20.
Us?
We’re buried in ‘honorable mention’, so I don’t think we should fixate on rankings and just focus on racking up the wins.
We do that, and the rankings will come forthwith.
I do agree that racking up the wins will create major buzz and may get the attention of some Top 2019 and 2020 talent.
Winning does that.

Auburn vs. Xavier at 2:30 EST on ESPN2 from Maui. Can Big East pull its first big non-conference upset?

Win some hardware in Brooklyn, run table on OOC games prior to BE, get a couple of commitments this week, keep Precious interested and that would be a hell of a start. Ratings will fall into place. To me Temple may be biggest hurdle to accomplish what I laid out. This is quite a talented group we have. If they continue to share the ball, take good shots & commit to defending and rebounding there will be a good amount of momentum heading into the grind of the BE season.

Up 17-14 at the under 8. Looking pretty solid overall and playing some tough D.

They are falling now. Auburn up 30-20.

Auburn with 4 straight 3s and Xavier playing rather timid at the guard slot vs faster Auburn guards. 30 vs 20 Auburn
Big East is showing how much it is hurting almost every game vs real competition.

It would be interesting to see how our guards would do vs Auburn’s.
Of course, Auburn would have the advantage of some strong tall bigs in back of them.

Important not just to get ranked but to stay ranked. Which means to absolutely destroy inferior oppenents.
I loved watching the 98-99 team, they always gave it their all, vs inferior opponents the game would be over, they were never like: "oh they suck, this game is gonna be boring."
Have that killer mentality.
