Around the Big East 18/19

Seton Hall lost to Saint Louis 66 - 64. Saint Louis turned the ball over 23 times and Seton Hall still couldn’t beat them. Hall missed a lot of free throws also.
Seton Hall down by 7 at home vs St. Louis. 11 min left in the game. On FS2
Pirates lose a heartbreaker by 2. Had a wide open 3 pointer to win it at the buzzer, but it was long.

Looked like there was some extracurricular activity going on in the handshake line, but FS2 ended their coverage right away, so don't know exactly what happened.

Don't mind one bit to see Nova struggling, it will be good to see someone else (SJU) win the league. Cant always be the best. The league is definitely rebuilding which is OK, conference strength is cyclical, last year the Big Ten was down and now its the Big East. These younger guys in the league will develop in time. Not going to lie I picked Villanova to win the league but I also thought they were overrated as a top 10 team. I actually wasn't surprised when they lost to Michigan but Furman is a different story. They have been playing really well props to them, they definitely have a shot to win their league. IMO Nova went too far with the small ball stuff this year no inside presence at all; they will live or die by the three this year. You saw it in the Michigan game they clamped them down on the perimeter and had the size down low to wall up Paschall who goes about 6'5"/6'6" in real life. It does kind of concern me since we are even smaller than they are, so I expect it to cost us a few conference games but the difference is we have much better and experienced guards. We also have multiple guys who can take it to the hole when needed, not sure they have that beyond Paschall, who by the by the way can dunk on people with two hands like its nobodys business. Did you see him annihilate Michigans 7 footer Teske, it was insane. I definitely think Paschall has a role in the NBA as a high end role player. Great start to the college basketball season in general, upsets all over the place. Gotta love it as long as its not us lol.

I'm probably paranoid, but I see Big East bias everywhere. So to me it's bad when our conference drops games like these. I don't want the committee looking for any excuse to only put two or three teams in.

2 Big East games on Sunday.

12 noon - Georgetown vs. South Florida, from Montego Bay, Jamaica - CBS Sports Network
1:30 PM - Providence vs. Michigan, from Mohegan Sun - ESPN

I'm paranoid but in a different way. It's been admirable about how we've been able to hang with the other major conferences since breaking away. I'm always concerned the conference will fade to be more in line with the mid majors eventually.

Conference will remain strong. St. John's, Georgetown Villanova and Providence will lead the conference into the future. Xavier, Creighton and Butler will be remain strong past this year. Seton Hall and Marquette will fade, and DePaul will be DePaul.

The Syracuse transfer big seems like he beats to a different drum. Some interesting comments from Kevin W;

2. The Taurean Thompson mystery (2 points on 1-of-5 shooting in 6 minutes) continues. The whole thing has been strange. First, Willard denying interview requests for the first six weeks of preseason — something you almost never see with a non-freshman. Second, his struggles with the defensive scheme after 14 months in the program. Third, his obvious frustration and lack of aggression.

"I'm trying to match him up with somebody that can help him defensively," Willard said. "He's really worked hard at it, he's gotten much better in the three weeks. It's just a matter of trying to get him to match up, put him on the floor with someone that can really help him defensively, whether it's either Mike (Nzei) or Sandro."

It's a small sample size, for sure, but Thompson didn't just arrive on campus either.

"He hasn't grasped everything we're doing yet, and he eventually will, but until he does, that's a work in progress," Willard said.

KenPom were #37..which reasonable considering the teams we've played so far / only three games played. There just isn't enough data yet.

Providence opened as 6.5-pt dogs against (18) Michigan in the championship of the 2018 Air Force Reserve Tip Off at Mohegan Sun

Hoyas up 2 at half v USF. Freshman guards will drive Patrick crazy in short term.

Btw former SJU “phantom” seven foot recruit Nikola Scekic has 0 points & 1 rebound. In spots he has bumped Govan off block & banged with him to be fair.

He'd be shooting 3s for us.

G'town looks really terrible. Just sloppy and disinterested against a not great team. Govan turned it on for a few minutes and totally dominated then just disappeared again.

Michigan, fun team to watch, up 6 on Providence w 7 minutes to go in first half
