Around the Big East 18/19

Glad to see Georgetown returning to form. There's some excitement around those freshmen, hope they can keep it up. Akinjo actually committed to UConn first (with Ollie), which makes his performance that much sweeter.

Regarding whether we can beat Georgetown, they looked tough last night. Then again, they didn't look great in their previous games. Also, Xavier looks very beatable while last year they were obviously an elite team. Feels too early to analyze future BE match ups at this point given how little we know about the league and even our own team.

This year has potential for Nova, Marquette, Georgetown, and SJU all to be good at the same time. Probably won't work out that way, but even 2 or 3 of them making the Tournament would be huge for the league in a supposed down year. For as good as the league has been the last few years, Nova is the only one of them that has made the Tournament.
Gtown vs Illinois was a great game start to finish. Georgetown much improved and deep. They can easily finish in top 5 of BE if they can control turnovers. Very exciting freshman back court and 3 or 4 good Big's. Will be no easy game for us.
Illinois as said earlier is picked near bottom of B10 and was missing a key starter Trent Frazier. Alll road wins are good but the BE is going to be weak this year.

I agree Fordham
Therefore, it's a great year for us to finally be "good"

Three big matchups in the Gavitt Games tonight.

6:30 PM - Michigan at Villanova - FS1
7:30 PM - Seton Hall at Nebraska - BTN
8:30 PM - Marquette at Indiana - FS1

Collin Gillespie can’t guard me. :) Ponds & company abused him last year in Philly & he’ll struggle with SJU guards again imo.

Embarrassing. It's now 56-28. Oy vey! Not good for the conference.

Sure glad Jay Wright does not coach at St. Johns, this board would have fired him before the game was over, lmao.

Powell has 15 of SetonHal’s 27 as the Pirates trail by 6 at Nebraska at half.
So,did not see the Georgetown game but from what posters are saying they seem good, Question to those that saw the game are they better than us ,they have a bigger team, can we beat this team???
In general, I think our success will depend on whether we leverage our quickness and athleticism to get our share of easy baskets and play intense defense. If so, we can win most games. If we fall in love with the 3 and play lackadaisical defense we can lose to anyone.

In answer to your question, I don’t think GT is better than us and do think we can beat them as long as we play to win the game and not to strut our stuff. With that said, they play hard and are tough.

And now Marquette getting manhandled by Indiana, down 21-6 early. Not looking good for the Big East.

I guess we better start shining, regardless of Keita being out, and win these games regardless... we get through til he’s healed up and we are in good shape...

Another thing, folks, as I seem to have to mention this every season.... Be careful about labeling teams one way or another (good or bad) in these early season games. It's not always so black and white or indicative to how the season will ultimately play out.

Nonetheless a very embarrassing loss by the #8 ranked team at home. After watching these past few games we may go undefeated in the Big East but lose half our OOC games.;)
