Around the Big East 18/19

Final from South Orange, Seton Hall 73, New Haven 62. Myles Cale with 20 points. Myles Powell came back after injury scare and obviously the Hall hopes he is fine for Nebraska on Wednesday.

I was at our game, so I didn't see this, but I'll make a general comment here.

Ed Cooley has done a great job at Providence. Has had more sustained success then anyone could have imagined. However, in-game coaching does not appear to be his strength.

Hasn't Providence gone to 6 NCAA tournaments in a row. That is historic success for them and they owe it all to Ed Cooley.

All programs would be lucky to have a coach with his record, integrity, and loyalty.

Five.

5 Big East games to get you through Saturday:

4:00 PM - Evansville at Xavier - YES (tape delayed broadcast at 2 AM)
4:00 PM - Bethune-Cookman at Marquette - FS2
6:00 PM - Central Connecticut at Georgetown - FS2
7:00 PM - Miami (OH) at Butler - YES (tape delayed broadcast at 4 AM)
8:00 PM - Quinnipiac at Villanova - FS2

Cooley's accomplishments at Providence are significant because this was his "dream job"
Other coaches at Providence in recent years saw this as a stepping stone type of job
This is a very good marriage for both parties
I would expect Cooley to have sustained success at Providence for years to come

That freshman Reeves is going to be a stud, ace shooter & Dukes will be solid, although not a shooter at this juncture. Nice tandem to build on. Cooley’s strength is identifying attainable kids who can develop & not wasting too much time on five star kids. He may not be John Wooden on sidelines, but kids play hard for him and PC dances consistently. I heard him say earlier in week the next step in evolution of PC is to do damage, not just get there, in NCAA T. That is a candid view imo.

With Marquette's W today, I think they'll be ranked on Monday.

Currently #27 (RV).

#25 Washington got blown out @ #11 Auburn. #26 Loyola lost to Furman.

Would be first time they're ranked since the new Big East started.

HOYAS with a close win v Central Ct., 85-78
Jessie Govan: 26 points, 8 rebounds
Trey Mourning: 12 points, 6 rebounds
Jamorko Pickett, 12 points, 5 rebounds

Add those two performances to a shaky win from St. John's over Bowling Green on Friday night, as well as Providence's loss to Wichita State.

Seton Hall (41) up to 5th in conference in KenPom, just ahead of St. John's (42).

Watched part of Marquette game vs Bethune Cookman . Howard and the 2 Hauser Brothers will have to be defended aggressively . Otherwise they will overwhelm us with 3 point bombs . They don’t appear to have a strong Inside game . It will be a interesting Match up when we play them . One of the keys will be making them defend us going to the hoop . Get them tired and worn down . We aren’t going to match them in a 3 point Contest from the Arc .. Our 3 pointers will largely be the Basket and one ! It will be interesting to see who gets to guard Howard and Sam Hauser . Maybe Simon on Howard ? Justin is bigger , quicker and can harass him all game . Which leaves either Heron or Figgy on Sam Hauser . Howard isn’t going to handle Ponds either on Defense . Last year showed Shamorie could get pretty much all he wanted vs Howard . I would gladly take a Split with Marquette in BE Games .

Xavier looked a lot better than I expected. When conf play starts the league is going to beat the crap out of each other.

Creighton & East Tennessee State tied at 31 at the half.

Todd Bowles picking out luggage btw in NJ as Jets getting stomped
