Around the Big East 18/19

Nice clean sweep by the league. Miles Powell had a huge day with 30 points on 13 shots.
It looks like everyone is playing for 2nd though after Duke's dominant opening game.

I watched about 15 min of Duke/KY game and some of the Marq game. MQ looks better than I thought. More balanced and mature and I was more impressed with their defensive intensity. Duke looked scary. But KY didn't play great ball Barrett was often uncontested and their middle was really porous. On offense they had one guy pushing and everyone else following. I'm going to predict that the Australian kid will be a big problem for us.

One of PC's two starting freshman guards A.J. Reeves had 29 last night, including 7-9 from three. Diallo with 16 pts and 11 rebounds. PC going to be tough as usual as they are also deep and have good size.

Duke looks scary, all right. They are loaded, and their performance against UK was jaw-dropping.

Light couple of days coming up in the Big East. Just one game tonight, and nothing tomorrow.

We have one of the most porous middles in college basketball. Clark and Keita will be boys to men (Duke frosh) in our game. It will take a great game plan to keep the game respectable. I have picked Duke for the final 4 so a loss to them would be a good loss if it helps us develop as a team for Big East play. I think the Big East will be better than expected and that 5 teams, including St. John's, will dance. Mullin needs to get Precious and Kofi!!!!!

Not Big East, but former Johnnie target L. Muhammed started for Ohio State against Cincy and has 11 points with about 5 minutes left

Already 8 more than the season average I expected him to have. Hopefully he keeps getting the PT there.

He’s gonna be good I’m sure. That said, we are loaded at guard. Yes he’s probably better than Williams, but guard is a position we have set right now. We wouldn’t likely have Heron had we gotten Luther, and Heron is better.

Those struggles didn't last very long. They are up by 20+ at the under 8 TO.

The loud boisterous crowd must have inspired them.

Nova vs. Michigan on 11/14
Hall vs. Nebraska on 11/14.

Wow, so does Marquette. Before BE season starts, they play Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin & finish up with Buffalo.

Perfect through two days for the BE, 9/9 with all 9 games by 10+ points. Given all the turnover, I was expecting a scare or two by now.

I know it's super weak competition, but still the margins are encouraging. I don't think this will be as much of a down year as many are projecting, and would be pretty surprised if we still only have 1 team ranked a couple weeks from now.

Meanwhile, the other half of our divorce (AAC) already has seen Cincy losing to unranked Ohio State by 8 and Wichita to Louisiana Tech by 13. Both at home, too.

Next two weeks will be massive for SJU and the rest of the league (B1G challenge/tournaments). Fortunately everybody seems healthy/eligible, and playing good ball.

Marquette v Indiana and OSU v Creighton should be pretty good too.

Only non events in the Gavitt, besides STJ v Rutgers, are G Town v Illinois and Penn St v Depaul

One other Big East game tonight (besides us), and it's a good one, even if the opponent is supposedly a little down this year.

6:00 PM - Providence vs. Wichita St., from Annapolis, Md. - CBS Sports Network
