Around the Big East 18/19

Xavier just landed 2019 4-star PG KyKy Tandy.

Per Shannon Russell
KyKy Tandy is the fifth member of @XavierMBB's Class of 2019, joining Zach Freemantle, Dieonte Miles, Dahmir Bishop and Daniel Ramsey. The four-star guard is a huge pickup for Travis Steele and company.
Steele has been killing it on the recruiting trail since he got hired. I still think they will finish top 3 in the league this year.
Steele is killing it and evokes streams of curses and sighs from us loyal Johhnie Fans, but i disagree on where they'll finish in 2018-19.
The Top 3 will be St. John's, Nova, and 'Quette, with Providence and Butler rounding out the Top 5. The Hall, G*Town, X, Creighton, and DePaul will fight for positions 6 - 10--at least, that's what the tea leaves are saying to me this morning.
We will see, I hope so. Honestly don't think Xavier is rebuilding they have already reloaded and bring back some guys who are just waiting to break out with bigger roles.

I hear you, Dan. X may not be an easy out in 2018-19, but they may be a year away from being Top 4.
Who knows, but I think we’ll be in the mix with Nova, Marquette, and Providence for the Top 4 slots.
Cannot wait for the season to begin.
Hoping it also solves our HS recruiting woes.

Key stats from Seton Hall's 14-point exhibition win at BC: Hall shot 22-28 FTs, 4-19 from 3, went plus-16 on the glass. Powell 25 on 7-13 FGs & 9-10 FTs. Taurean Thompson DNP

Seton Hall's minutes today (to me, the most interesting preseason stat): Mamu 33, Powell 27, Cale 24, McKnight 23, Nzei 22, Gill 21, Nelson 21, Rhoden 14, Reynolds 9, Brodie 1.
Plus/minus leaders: Powell +20, Mamu +14, Cale +11

@SetonHallMBB
Myles Powell scored 25 points, Romaro Gill had 10 points, 5 rebounds & 4 blocks, Myles Cale had 11 points & Sandro Mamukelashvili added 8 points & 13 rebounds as we topped BC in today’s charity exhibition

Per Rothstein, a familiar name, who I wanted here, but suspect will hang out on perimeter a lot.

Source: Bowling Green over DePaul by seven in a Secret Scrimmage. Game was in Chicago. 18 and 7 for Femi Olujobi.

Interesting that 9 guys played 9 or more minutes and that is with Taurean Thompson not playing today. Looks like Hall may go up to 10 deep.

Seems like all of these Big East teams are performing similarly to last year. Think us and DePaul are the only ones to lose. Creighton lost in 40 minutes, but won in 50 minutes by a large margin.

Hopefully a good sign for the league (and an oddity for us). There's an obvious correlation to scrimmage/exhibition and regular season results for most teams.

Wanted him too and all our players hang out on the perimeter a lot. Plans for Kofi are for him to start the weave just inside the mid court line.

Agree our loss was disappointing, given how anxious the entire Board is, but no way is a pre-season scrimmage 'predictive' of any outcome for the regular season, imo at any rate. Again, if Heron and Clark had normal games, we beat URI.
I would like to see Roberts and Earlington get some minutes in the OOC to get a sense if they can contribute, if need be.
Interesting that the Hall was +16 on the boards--that's a metric we've got to improve upon in BEC play for sure.
Also, to put it in con text, the Hall's heroics was against a tram picked for 12th of 15 teams in the ACC.
We'll be fine.

Pre-Season Rankings for ACC & The BEC:

ACC BEC

Duke Nova
VA Marquette
UNC Providence
FL. State St. John's
VA Tech Butler
Syracuse Xavier
Clemson G*Town
ND Seton Hall
NC State Creighton
Miami DePaul
Louisville
BC
Wake Forest

Wonder how all this shakes out by Season's End?
We've got the predictions.
Can't wait for the Season.

Watson & Holt will be an absolute handful inside for PC. I love my Johnnies, but us redmen.comers have a tendency to be overly optimistic with respect to our newcomers every year and also tend to underestimate the opposition. I picked us to finish second in BE, but have great respect for PC, Marquette, Butler & Xavier. Any or all of those teams could finish ahead of us. Exciting times to come, but not easy times for sure. I do not expect BE to be that down, btw.

But this time I mean it. At worst top 3 but I think top 2 and by end of year I think we are playing the best

This is finally the year and I haven't felt like this in a long freaking time

Left out Pitt and G Tech. Curious as to where G Tech is picked since we play them.

I hear you Mike and I am also super psyched for this year. On the other hand, I've been a Johnnie & Knick fan for way too long to get too giddy. Just praying that this year's team gets me excited enough to book a trip to the BE tournament in March. Haven't had a Bronx pale ale since I went to a Knick game last March over Easter! It's time!

Thanks for posting this MJ. Happy to see Louisville at #11. What a tough league though. 1 through 9 could all compete for NCAA berth.

Well I emphasized "most". The majority of pre-season results go the way they're expected to in regards to the winner. There are some exceptions, but surprising results are definitely in the minority, easily
