Around the Big East 18/19
Commissioner Delany re MSG

Delany said #B1G has talked with Madison Square Garden about the future. "We’re presented them with a powerful emotional plan. We think we can elevate Madison Square Garden to the next level with regard to the postseason. We will not play early."

@AdamJardy
B1G is not a great b-ball conference and has limited appeal in NYC. Their attendance figures last year were OK.

Elevate MSG? Don’t see it.

Don't like the sound of that.
The Big East has a contract with MSG through 2026. Not sure how anyone else can slip in during that time if they don't want to play early.
Maybe they are waiting for 2027. Or they'll get in one year in the near future, we'll have to find a home for one year (maybe Wintrust or Verizon Center), and MSG will extend our contract for a year's deference. That's what the Barclays Center did for the A10, when the ACC took over. A10 had three years left on their deal, so Barclays just deferred the final two years. So, instead of the A10's deal ending in 2019 as originally planned, it now ends in 2021.
In 2027 Jack Williams will be close to 30. Jesus I'll be 57. I'm not even going to think about it

Not to worry: by then, 57 will be the new 55.

Funny! I was hoping that once Jack was attending St. John's he would be our Jimmy Olsen but he is actually acting like a 57 year old alum. It would be great to have a student perspective on the basketball program. I invite Jack to do a weekly column. What say Jack?

I hope our new depth will be the answer to helping us close out tight games. I expect every game to be very competitive in conference even against the 9th and 10th place teams. In OOC against everyone not named Temple, VCU, Cal, GT, I expect to see a clear talent advantage on the court. Watching the Molloy, Delaware State, Incarnate Word, etc. type games the past few years have been aggravating. Hopefully this is the year we can pull out a few laughers against inferior opponents. One analyst stated that we seem to play down or up based on our competition level. That was definitely true last year for the most part but I hope we are more consistent this year.

Last year was a special situation. Lovett and Ponds got injured. Then Lovett flaked out on us. We took a dive and lost our identity for a while without Lovett. We ended up playing some excellent ball after that and showing we can be excellent, sinking Duke, Nova etc., but ultimately succumbed to lack of depth overall.

This year is a totally different story. No reliance on Lovett, tons of guard and wing depth at all spots. Lots of talent.

I agree. Last year, without the LoVett saga, could have been a 20 win year and the actual turnaround year for Mullin. It would have made for a more optimistic summer on this forum.

I also expect Rutgers to be a tough game. Anytime you play a major conference team in their building, you should always expect a close one, regardless of record. We should win it, but I don't expect it to be easy.

Also, while they don't play the exact same style of basketball that they are famous for, I'm sure that Princeton will do everything in their power to not get blown out of the building. I'd be fine if we won that by about 10, provided things don't get too serious.

I noticed Georgetown held an open practice this week. Lavin did this once & fans enjoyed it. Hopefully Chris follows suit next year.

Wow.... that's nuts.

two smaller things I noticed.... oddly, one player, Max Strus, noted under the order of protection.....

and Letaio's attorney is the AD's husband (maybe job is more secure than anyone thought).

Crazy stuff ensues, when $$$$'s run amok.
Call it human nature.
