Around the Big East 18/19

Absolutely. Great news for DePaul, whose role in Chicago is similar to that of St. John’s in NYC.
I didn’t mean to rain on their parade. They’ve been in the wilderness ‘forever’ as well.
Good luck to them.
Now, to borrow from Windy City: Can ‘we’ close, please?!!?

Just probably a silly question but does Mullin have the worst win loss record of any new coach coming into the big east over 3 yrs?

Yes it is silly.
First guy to come to mind PJ Carlesimo's was worse 25-60

At the end of the day, your record is your record. It is what it is, but the Mullin years ain’t over by a long shot.
We’re on the cusp of a potentially breakthrough season. Let’s hope it’ll be the first of many.
So, let’s see where we are a few years from now.
Then grade the guy as a coach. Not before.

Oliver Purnell was 30-64 his first three years at Depaul (granted, the old Big East).

Dave Leitao is even worse, 29-65 since coming back to Depaul (they were in Conference USA when he was there the first time, so it's still his entry to the Big East). He came back the same year Mullin started.

There may be others (PJ was mentioned - never would have thought of him).

When made Final run big story was how fans were ready to run him out of town in the beginning. Of course PJ wasn't the greatest player in school history so congrats ST John's fans you are worse fans than Seton Hall.

Good data, man!
It takes awhile to rebuild, particularly us, with our other handicaps. Which is why, it's critical to avoid another full rebuild.
A 'transitonal' period is one thing, but let's avoid another total rebuild, like the plague.

And with possibly four key departures after this season -- Ponds, Clark, Simon, Heron -- not including possible transfer-outs, we could indeed be facing another rebuild next year if recruiting doesn't pick up.

Yeah, Red. IF Simon returns, but we lose Clark, Ponds, and Heron, we’ll have a very good 4-core to build with: Simon, Figueroa, Dixon, and Keita, with maybe a strong bench (not very big) of Wright, Caraher, Trimble, Williams, Roberts, and Earlington (if all return).
But we’ll need reinforcements to contribute in 2019-20 and beyond, or we could be at risk to suffer through another rebuild.

So why again can DePaul recruit but we can't? Obviously they've been the worst program by far in the Big East for decades so that's not hurting them.

Great news for DePaul and the Big East.

Just imagine how dire the situation at SJU would be if the Big East WASN'T performing like it has been the past few years?

Don't take this success for granted because the media held a literal RIP ceremony (documentary) for us when the league first started. We are very fortunate that even the basement is finding success.

That said I am a bit $keptical as to how DePaul is getting these recruits, but at this point they might as well do whatever it takes.

With the exception of Simon (who no doubt will be testing the waters), all the others are question marks ... and more than one is a big question mark.

If Heron is ruled ineligible probably makes sense for him to come back. So there is that.
It will be this year or never for Heron.
What would his options be?
His pro prospects have not improved with sitting out a year.
Europe for a year makes sense but then as discussed that sort of blows up the hardship thing. Not that that would really matter but still.

A year older. He will try the NBA and if he does not make it will go to Europe. He is not going to wait to play here. We can all try and explain why it would be better for him but it will never happen.

I am sure you are right but on paper would make sense to be the man here and would help his chances.
