Princeton's coach, Butch van Breda Kolff, took a lot of heat for not sitting down Bradley when he had four fouls and the team had a double-digit lead over Michigan with about five minutes to go ... especially since there was no shot clock and they could have run lots of time off the clock.. Instead, he decided to stick with Bradley and the rest was history ... disappointing history for the Tigers and their fans, for sure.
It just dawned on me, that I ‘could’ be old, because I remember that game...
Oh, we're old, Chicago Days, we're old. Then again, we're lucky to have all those great memories of some great teams.

It would be great for St John’s and Duke to play every Year . Likewise having ND on the OOC schedule every year would be great too. ND fans , Alums, plus Redmen fans should be able to pack the Garden every other Year . One would think the Irish would welcome a chance to play every other Year at the Garden especially since they left the BE . Barclay’s Center ? Ha .Perhaps our new AD Mike Cragg can get this accomplished . And , it’s good for the Local BB scene to play Iona, Manhattan, Fordham , St Francis too. They don’t all have to be played in the same year but, 1 or 2 would be great . Maybe as part of a Double Header attraction at MSG . Hofstra could be in the mix too. They could be the other game vs anyone of the Schools already named .

Throw in excuse and it'd be armageddon.

That'd make my head explode.:)

If I remember correctly the 5th foul was an offensive foul near mid court . It was a ridiculous call but Dollar Bill accepted the refs call and walked to the Princeton bench ( classy move ) . Had 14 student tickets on the floor behind the basket for that game, many fans from Woodside with me for the game .

There was a Big Dance electricity about it back then. That said, there's a lot that could be done to make the current Festival a whole lot more attractive.

Redken, I did not recall that in those days of yore, HF included 8 teams. The one you reference where the Johnnies beat Michigan in the finals after Bradley had a phenomenal game against Michigan in a losing effort in the semis was my first game watching the Johnnies in the Garden. I believe it was 1965. I just assumed it was a four team tournament as it was in later years. I still remember that great Johnnies team pretty vividly - the McIntyre brothers, Sonny Dove, Bobby Duerr and Houston (can't recall his first name). What a win that was!
Expressed my agreement with you about the Michigan game in a separate thread that's currently posted. It was on January 2, following a brief New Year's break. Great, great win, but what most non-Redmen fans remember most about that tournament was the December 30 semi-final between All-America Cazzie Russell's No. 1 Wolverines and All-America Bill Bradley's Princeton squad. Princeton, behind Bradley, was up by something like 12 with four & a half minutes to go, but Bradley fouled out and UM prevailed, 80-78, on a game-winning shot by Russell. Ironically, both guys ended up being first-round picks by the Knicks. You got the starting Redmen team right, including Jerry Houston who scored the team's final three points with 20 seconds to go. Sonny (my all-time favorite) was magnificent, battling against UM's muscular front line.
Did some research this afternoon and am making the following edits on my post above: (1) Bradley had scored 41 points before fouling out! (2) Jerry Houston did score team's final points, but it wasn't on an old-fashioned 3-point play. Instead, he hit a layup with 1:37 minute to go, and then a free throw with 28 seconds left. Michigan failed to make a field goal in the game's final 10 minutes. ... That said, not too bad for my original recollection: game was more than 53 years ago. Then again, I can never remember any of my computer passwords.

That’s pretty good, redken!
Yeah, it’s tough enough to remember passwords. I hate it when sites make you change it regularly, and nothing of old p*word is allowed.
Some of these tech guys must be sadists!

Try LastPass. It remembers passwords for you, will generate passwords & is free!

Jacobs is a local Chicago kid who also had offers from Kansas, Illinois & Florida State. Pretty impressive for Depaul to win that one.

K, that's nice. Doesn't mean hoot to us--other than we haven't signed anybody yet!
But, I won't panic until the dancing has stopped.
Then, if nada, you'll hear me howl.

Thanks Paultz.
Speaking of which:: Any word on Al-Amir's visit?
Been hoping. Guess not yet.
Now, we have to worry about his in-home from the Hall tomorrow.
Geech, the indignities!
Lol.
